Greetings civfanatics, just recently decided to try civ a couple weeks ago- went with civ4 and was instantly hooked

AI got boring, so went online to find some games and was pretty disappointed (all blazing speed with ppl quitting as soon as they missed out on a single wonder or for no reason at all).

Looking to start a game with dedicated laid back group (larger the better) where we can meetup every day (or couple of days/every week) for a few hours to playthrough an epic/normal game :D

Game #1 -Open- PM me or post here to be added to roster

current roster:
Mr. Wolfe
deigeorge (?)
Creatureboy11
Kitaori
Saru
Calanthian
Dignus Avitus
noto2

Group Page: http://forums.civfanatics.com/group.php?groupid=416 - go here to join group/post game requests and ideas (if you're joining the forum just for this page, keep in mind you need to be a forum member for 5 days with 5 posts to join the group page- in which case just post here :) )

first game voting/submissions now!

yup, same here.
Never played multiplayer, looking for ppl to join ;D
Btw how do we connect? using IP or sthm?

I wanna join this laid back group! God save Mr.Wolfe (As they say in Civ4: Colonization, although this is Civ4)

was thinking the regular gamespy mode would be easiest? would make meeting up on gamedays simpler i think.

btw glad to see other people interested in a chillin game :D

while we wait for 1 or 2 more interested people, ill list rules i was thinking of using and others im on the fence about- you guys can lemme know if they sound good or you'd like changes-

normal speed (or epic depending on how long you guys want first game to be)

no simultaneous turns (i think it makes it more strategic and boardgame like, and that way we don't have to rush/time our clicks)

if we go with timed turns (probably best) nothing faster than normal, or slow

barbarians or no?

locked game or not? I like the idea of letting randoms takover AI in an ongoing game, but have heard it can screw your game if someone joins a world power AI and decides to go on warfrenzy)

and as for map- was thinking a huge earth type or terra, but really doesn't matter to me

that's all I can think of right now, what do you guys think?

1. I think we should have Quick speed for our first game.
2. But I love simultaneous turns!
3. Locked game!
4. Barbarians make game fun.

EDIT:
5. Huge Terra or Earth would be very fun, but that should be a Marathon game that goes for months.
6. We should have to announce ALL diplomacy, like in Risk :mischief:

And Lastly, we should make a group for this!

I'd love to get in on this.

1. I prefer quick speed but normal also works.
2. Simul saves time, but it can change your circumstances while you were taking your turn. I find that kinda annoying.
3. Locked.
4. I like no barbarians.
5. I prefer extremes in map terms - either lots of navigation (Archipelago) or none (Pangaea). Everything in between just never seems to offer incentive for naval travel until you've already almost won to begin with.

barbs and locked it is! also what exactly do you mean by announcing all diplomacy? sounds like an interesting idea for a quick speed game.

The one thing I really don't want to budge on though, is the no simultaneous turns :/ ( really affects the pace and type of game imo, and we are going for laid back no rush here after all)- not that it should take us too long to complete turns anyhow. would be down for that kinda game later on when I've learned nuances of civ4.

creating a group sounds good also, but what exactly do you mean by that? (real online civ noob here)

*edit 1 for 1 on barbs after all, looks like Kitoari posted while I was writing- welcome!. some good ideas also- both those maps sound fun but do you think Terra wouldn't offer enough incentive for naval travel with the new world continent?

OK so, realizing this board might get a bit messy, I'm going to post current rules and players for game #1 on first post and edit as seems appropriate. If all goes well i think it would be fun to play series of games (at least one marathon if we get a good enough group :D), and for that reason I think we'll settle on the game speed being quick for this one.

I'll try to accommodate everyone as best as possible for this game, but if a rule you want doesn't go through, we can always have it on a next game

1. Good idea for NO simultaneous turns; i'm just used to it  .
2. Now I think that rules should vary (Like one fan site's "Epic's Competitions".)
3. Want me to make the groups?
EDIT:
4. (Based on Kitoari's post) Can't we use a slightly more naval map, like Snaky Continents Archipelago?

I'd like to join your group. I'm also annoyed by the fact that in multiplayer, half of the players usually leave during the first 30 minutes :(
Your current rules are fine with me except are you sure it is a good idea to make a huge map? I mean quick speed and a huge map. It will for example make warmongering impossible as during the time your army of maceman is marching your teching goes so far that those units are propably hugely outdated when they reach their target.
Also, a huge map in multiplayer causes a lot of lagging in midgame and past! I would prefer a maximum of stantard size for quick speed-game and large for normal speed-game

Our first game should be either Small/Quick or Huge/Marathon

-Greetings Saru! looks like this is shaping up to be a good sized game :)

I didn't even think about this! for that reason I'm going to fall down on the side of a huge/marathon or large/normal game (isn't too hard finding quick games ppl wont mass quit as opposed to marathon, and we will be saving and continuing anyhow)

Creature= I'm not very organized, and still a noob to civ online- so if you wanted to make a group (or msg me on how to do that) it'd be cool with me me. Also what do you mean by varying rules?

To all players= might be a good idea to msg me with best times you'd be available to play so we can start thinking of a gameday/schedule? or for all of us to to setup a skype/msn chat and work out details (hoping to get this started as soon as everyone can)

Using only some of the rules every game.

Also, I can go on from around 3 PM - 8 PM Eastern Standard Time (8 PM - 1 AM Universal Time)

Had an idea on how we might be able to start this asap- can't seem to find out how to PM though, so will just post it here.

How about we start a huge locked Marathon game today or tomorrow with whoever is available- and allow other new players to join by taking over an AI, (through request on this thread) up until a certain year.

Just us; so that there will be no "Barbs took my city! I'm leaving this impossible game!" or "This is taking too long!"

Ah great!

how do we join the group? couldn't find an option at the page-

also suppose we can move all posts there, and much thanks to creature- should make these games easier to coordinate
There IS an option on the page; "Join Group" - or... there should.

i don't understand? lol noob-ness.

we will be playing with other AI's so why not let ppl request to join and takeover a civ (ideally staying for the rest of game) so we can grow our group faster? could close game around year 0-500 to prevent someone joining a world power late-game and wreaking havoc.

as for the long turns or impossible game? we could just not have aggressive barbs (or barbs at all depending on final vote) and turn times are expected to be a bit long here- going for a long term thoughtful game, but shouldn't be outrageously long.

EDIT: cant seem to find it on the link you sent- can only "view members"

1.I don't think a closing date is possible. I think it is all locked or never locked.
2. I was making a point/joke. It is okay with anything.
