In Arkansas City... The place was home to 20,000+ people and the scene of a battle around 1600. The Spanish arrived from New Mexico and were about to attack the city but they turned back when the saw how large it was, then they got attacked by a neighboring tribe that just happened to arrive to attack Wichita.
The Spanish force of 70 men survived but it was the diseases they brought that did in the Wichita civilization. French explorers showed up a century later and found little left of the Wichita, just roving bands. The city rivaled if not surpassed Cahokia as the largest American population center north of Mexico.
