Lost Eden development thread

Does that cover the comment JH24 made?

What do you call the monolith in Lost Eden?

Yes it does, I'll make a village and a sea village that matches the vines (as Carnivines are what live in the villages). I'm not 100% what I'm going to do with the monolith. I was thinking that I could change it to a pool of some sort, but then it wouldn't really match the ruins so much anymore. I'll probably just recolour it a bit, although perhaps rename it to "Obelisk".

EDIT: I've updated the readme file now. I've also finished some graphics! Attached are the new graphics for the Obelisk, as well as land and sea villages.

Also, a nice side effect of me fixing up script.txt earlier is that I have been able to customise the popup that asks the user if they want to go to the design workshop when they get new tech -- now it doesn't let the player say yes (which was a potential problem).

What does the Ruins look like? How about "manna" or "horn of plenty" or some other biblical reference to bounty?

I'll look at it later. Have to go.

That's good!

Well I wanted something religiously neutral so that way it made sense for all sides to use them. I've gone with the Obelisk I attached earlier.

Drawing day tomorrow again so I'll be away from keyboard for most of the day! I'll probably draw the Charmander Defender. :)

Sure, I will! :)

Arko looks good.

The sea village looks just like the village, except for the water. Have you considered making the sea village different (e.g. floating barges)?

I kind of like the pool idea (Pool of Abundance). As I recalled, trade is rather limited in Lost Eden, so maybe "Trading Outpost." (so units get a morale upgrade after partaking of the libation and other pleasures and there is a healer there!)

Looked at the readme. The error occurred because InfNet does not occur in the alphax.txt file. Is there any possibility of defining InfNet (and the other techs that are given to the standard factions) but disabling them. Would that fix the problem?

Graphic for Obelisk is alright but it looks too much like a monolith.

In addition to the ideas above, how about a special tree? (It is eden!) What was the tree in the Garden of Eden? The tree of like?

I look forward to seeing it.

Next time you post, could you note your local time in the body of the post?

Thank you!

I can make the village look more like the underwater sea vines. It's literally made from the vines if you know what I mean.

It would, although it would also make them playable again, which would be the same as if I overwrite the factions themselves.

There's no echelon mirrors, boreholes or tidal harnesses so I suppose that trade is limited. It wouldn't make sense for Trading Outposts to be used in landmarks, unfortunately, as they are meant to be ancient (The Circle landmark is a ring of 8 of them, the Ruins have 3 around them too, Meora's Legacy has 1). I can consider a pool though (I was going to do it under my own accord until I decided against it for the above reason) so we'll see.

Graphic for Obelisk is alright but it looks too much like a monolith.
It is a modified monolith. I'll be honest and say that I like it although I'm happy to do more to it such as recolour it or add more sigils. It's a very obscure hint to the origins of Lost Eden.

In addition to the ideas above, how about a special tree? (It is eden!) What was the tree in the Garden of Eden? The tree of life?
There were many trees in the Garden of Eden. The significant ones were the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (the forbidden one) and the Tree of Life (which is also later used to describe God). Of course, those two trees are pretty leaning towards one way or another if you know what I mean!

I look forward to seeing it.

I've drawn the charmander defender although as Dad left his laptop at church I'm not able to scan and colour 'im up until Sunday.

Tomorrow's another free day, so God willing lots of work will be done! :goodjob:

It is 12:03 AM. Time for bed!

If they are not in the alphax.txt at the end, they can't be selected.

If there is a reason for the obelisk, that's okay. Maybe some recoloring and more sigils would be good.

Email it to me and drop a note here when it is ready.

That would be good.
Alright I'll get to that now.

EDIT: Mhm I'm not sure what the sea village should look like. You see sea vines are the same as normal vines, just underwater a bit. So if they were pulled to the surface (to make a village for instance), they'ld look the same as vines on land. Not sure what to do there.

If they are not in the alphax.txt at the end, they can't be selected.
Well in that case should I just overwrite the factions themselves then? And if so, should I update the alpha download?

Great. :goodjob: (heh I don't really like the santa smiles so I'm avoiding using them!)

Sure! What I'm planning to do a timelapse of me colouring the charmander in and upload it to YouTube (my friend wanted to know how I colour my images).

I'm not sure what I'll get up to today, but I'll let you people know if anything interesting happens.

The time is 10:50 AM.

How about some sort of pontoons?

If you change the alphax.txt file, you wouldn't have to overwrite the factions. And if the fix works, I'd say update the alpha download.

We had a beta list (artwork, tech blurbs).

Natives wouldn't have that sort of technology. Perhaps something based off floating vine masses?

Alright! I'll do that shortly then.

Yes of course. I'm doing to try and do an entertainer (I'm wondering what to do there actually, perhaps juggling) and then get into blurb writing.

How about story telling a la the ancient Greek Homer?
That could work, although what would that look like?

EDIT: Alpha updated. :goodjob:

EDIT2: I've been out for most of the day (will probably have a relaxing evening too although I may do a small amount of quotes) and I'll be out again tomorrow for another Yugioh tournament! On Sunday I plan to do the colouring as I mentioned previously. Monday's LP day as usual. A bit of a meh day but hey I'm human (I don't pretend I'm a totodile in real life :P) and can get away with one or two meh days every now and then.

Back from tourney! Came 9th place out of 17 teams, so one short of finals! Still feel pretty good about it though. :goodjob:

A guy or totodile standing on a platform orating and maybe gesturing with his hands or its limbs.
Could work, I'll need to get an idea in my head first.

Let's Plays, that is, the recordings I do for YouTube! Speaking of them though, if I get some recordings down now in the evening I have less work to do on Monday. I also plan to do that char' defender tonight rather than tomorrow, more time saved.

There is a post on 'Poly but I don't know if it should be taken seriously considering the post count.

Right. Let me know here when you have emailed it to me.

It is word for word the beginning of the post two posts above. I have reported it as spam.

 I don't understand this statement.
You called a he an it. :)

Playing is good.
Yeah! I'm at turn 250 of a game of Lost Eden. Oblivion and Cyndatech lead ahead by miles (Oblivion's got 204 population!)

I plan to get to some qoutes tonight as well as doing that village. No more excuses!
