We just installed Civ3 onto a Windows 7 machine (not sure that is relevant to my question).
We had quite a few saved games, then removed the CD to do something else. When my son reinserted the CD, there was a message about not being able to start the game. I took over, returned to my main Windows screen, inserted the disk, and waited more patiently for the CD startup to go through it's routine. We then were able to properly enter the game.
However, none of our previously saved games were available. I did a Windows Explorer search for one of our saved names (I am sure that I typed in a correct piece of the name) but could not find it.
We then started a new game, saved it, and found it using the same type of Windows Explorer search. There were no other saved games in the same directory.
I am resigned to the fact that we've lost the previous games; but, am curious if anyone has any ideas on whether there is the possibility of recovery and also whether we risk the same problem again in the future. Has anyone else experienced this?
