Well, I suppose I had to finish it all off didn't I?
More news to follow.

That's what your secret unfinished project was right?

Can't wait :goodjob:

FavouredFlight! We hadn't heard from you for a while. Welcome back, if I can say that... :goodjob: And as usual your project seems amazing! I must admit that I consider your scenarios by far the most professional scenario work in years.

Now you've got me all worked up. I just began re-reading the book, and I look forward to your scen! :goodjob:

Actually... nope. I'm still working on that one.

I kept getting emails about whether I was going to finish the series off but I'd just dissmissed ever doing it. There were big problems involving the control of enemies in wide open spaces (unlike Moria, where everything is 'locked' into small spaces).

Then, out of the blue, I was contacted by Paul Cullivan (creator of Odyssey). He sent me a couple of text files he'd been working on some time ago. They described, blow-by-blow, Frodo-et-al's journey from Bagend to Rivendell. I read through them a few times and it got me thinking. It wasn't long before I started coming up with ways that might overcome the problem of monsters wandering off.
Anyway, I tried out a few experiments and was surprised to see things falling into place really quickly -- everything worked! It was all pretty obvious in the end.

The game is, once again, more of an adventure than typical Civ game (what else? ...it's me right!). It's kind of a hybrid of Moria and Return of the King, meeting somewhere in the middle as far as gameplay goes (probably leaning more toward Moria actually). Of course, you'll be able to take the route Frodo took, but if you want to try another, well, you can.

Right now I'm somewhere just outside Bree, with regard to the event files (it's probably going to be a three batch file deal).

That's good that you figured out how to get the monsters to work right. I remember what's-his-name was having problems with that.

Yes, anarchy, I meant you :)

Why not make the monster move-2 barbarians and place them in invisible fortresses?:)
Ah! If only Civ2 AI actually worked.
'Move to' doesn't do what it says. In fact, I'm not sure it does anything at all.
And I'm not really using cities either, so I've side-stepped the problem anarchywrksbest had. Hmm, bet that has you confused... :) Worry not! It's all working really well.

Not to begin interpreting or anything, I just think he meant the monsters should have two moves (move-2) and and that you should place them in invisible fortresses. Because the AI units tend to stick to the fortresses. :D

So Favoured Flight, are you making any progress? :)

Sorry for not replying sooner. Well, things have progressed, yes.
I'm now on the approach to Weathertop.

I was making steady progress and suddenly got snowed under with other things so this project had to take a back seat for a while. I try to do something on it whenever I can though.

I'm hoping (crossed fingers) it'll all be done for x-mas.

in that case.. a great x-mas present 4 us all :goodjob:

Well, the second events batch file is done: That takes the adventure up to the confrontation with the Nazgul on Weathertop.
Just one final events file to go (but, it'll be the biggest of the three). After that there'll be a bunch of new graphics to work on and it'll be finished.
It's coming along really well at the moment. I've added a few small side-quests and extra characters who involve themselves with the journey (if you manage to find them).
You can even meet up with Gandalf on his journey to Rivendell, but you'll have to be quick to catch up with him!
I'll see if I can post up a nice screen shot or two before the weekend.
