Loving Tectonic (version 3.17 maps)

Tectonics is not for me. I've tried a dozen or more times with various settings using launch/WB/regenerate/exit and never once got anything better than three small "continents" (one all tundra and ice) and some tiny islands. One map had its largest landmass outside the ice covering a whole eight tiles, with no resources and a one-tile river. Couldn't be bothered to count, but if any of these maps had less than 80% sea I'd be surprised.

i love it, but on 60% water... on 70% it kept giving me islands. i have also had some problems with stupid resource placements like 5 gold tiles in a range of desert hills with no nearby water of any kind.

Or someone starting with copper, iron and horses in their capital and food resources right next to their borders.

It is much better than Fractal maps though!

Bush - try 60% water, thats fun. it also gives you actual landmasses.

You might also like medditerranian where its kind of like the "inland sea" map. the only problem there is that most of the land is on the poles, but still managable.

I find them to be very watery, would be my only complaint. But the mountain ranges, and the tactics involved in playing these maps are exciting.

I don't even mind the unbalancing issues. It's more realistic in my opinion, that not every resource under the sun be in your cultural borders, and sometimes you draw an abundance, and sometimes you're much more barren. It isn't impossible to recover from.

And the unusable land appeals to me too. It creates some spacing in the early going in my experiences, as no one is expanding directly into wasteland right away. This has strategic value as well, when not every single tile on the map is dominated (for better and for worse) by someones cultural borders.

does anyone else experience tectonic map lock up when creating islands maps ? (I think it happens, when you create too many civs on a islands map, probably the script can't find space to locate them and locks up)

I love tectonics because of the chokepoints it creates.

I agree it really makes politics that much more interesting and Open borders become very important. Unless you are like me and decide the best open borders are ones you make yourself
