Luonnotar has access to spells? Really?

So I'm fairly new to FFHII, and have latched onto the Grigori - They're fun and challenging. Having a small army of adventurers to take over the world has been quite rewarding!

I see the civilopedia lists the Luonnotar as starting with Channeling II and III, and having access to all of the regular spells, including the Tier III. Having gotten a hang of this magic thing, I figured that having 4 archmage and 4 Luonnotar adventurer's would be handy.

Problem is, they don't have Channelling I, so can't get any Tier I spells, and hence no Tier II or III. It seems they can only be upgraded from a medic or ranger, but neither of them get any spells either!

What gives? Is the Channeling just a tease? Just for the domination promotions (also handy on a str 10 unit btw)? Are they left over from an old version?

They only have Channeling so that they can purchase the Command promotions, and maybe get a little free xp.


If you manage to capture a Devout you can upgrade it to a Luonnatar that keeps Life I (Sanctify), thus making Life II (Destroy Undead) and Life III (Ressurection) available.

You you manage to capture the Amurite hero Govannon you can use his Teach Spellcasting ability to give all (non animal, non beast, non bird) living units in the stack Channeling I and all the first level spell spheres Govannon has.

Note that only Arcane units can learn the first level spell spheres, so Channeling I is not enough to let your Luonnatar learn any spells.

OK, so it is mostly for the Command promotions (miss-named in my original post as Domination). I still do like the Luonnotar, especially for avoiding the spread of the Ashen Veil (Inquisition) and Command (easy to get Command III and Combat V in an adventurer.) Sounds like the captured opportunities don't come often, but I'll watch for them to arise.

i haven't gotten luonnatars in a while, but can they be upgraded from champions? if so, you could upgrade from a captured vampire as well

Champions have been replaced with the UU Dragon Slayers for the Grigori, and no they don't upgrade to Luonnotar.

In the past they could, but not anymore. They are a Druid UU now, so they upgrade from Priests and Rangers, as well as Grigori Medics and anything that can uograde to a Priest or a Ranger.


Champions in general could never upgrade to Luonnatar. Only their Dragon Slayer UU could.
