With the arrival of my copy of Civ 3 Complete I am wondering who would be interested in playing either a small (4-5) PBEM game or a larger game (5-7) run through gameranger?
Just out of technical interest, I tried to install the GameRanger client. It downloads OK, and installs an application, but it won't run on my Mac. Just launches and spontaneously aborts. OS X 10.4.4. Anyone got it working?
Simplest way to hook up two computers is using a direct ethernet cable, or a firewire cable if they both have that interface. If you need to include three or more, or if either is already using its ethernet port to connect to the Internet then you need an ethernet hub or switch to interconnect them.
My wife connected our Macs rather quickly. It was originally to enable us to share a common printer. Now we can even share files etc.. If you don't get the info you need let me know and I'll have her post how she did it.
This past weekend I took a stab and played about 2-1/2 hrs worth of a simultaneous LAN game (two persons). Set it up through my airport express. Just plugged it in and it worked right away. I didn't need to change any of the settings on the either computers nor on the airport express. One machine was an IMac G5 and the other was G4 Powerbook. The Powerbook crashed after about 2-1/2 hrs of game play. That was sure annoying? PLenty of RAM on the powerbook. On the G5 I just timed out. I winder if it was a problem with the wireless? ANyone have any ideas.
