Please excuse the somewhat improvised story, I'm not a good computer historian.
One of the hardest fought wars in history, and still continuing, the war between the Macintosh users and the PC users has continued now for over 30 years. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, leaders of their respective armies, continue to mass armies of new gadgets and models to fight the war with. Mac has been gainnig severely heavy ground lately, with the iPhenomenon.
Some believe that this war may never end. Others believe a sort of Y2K catastrophe will end the war, and we'll all regret it too late.
The war officially began on the release of the Microsoft Windows operating system in 1985. The Mac had been out for nearly 2 years (released on Jan. 24 of 1984). The Macintosh started out with a good lead, but was soon overtaken in popularity. The 1990's were, arguably, ruled by the Windows PC. However, after the fall during the 98 and 2000 series, Macintosh began to catch up fast. Especially after the release of many new gadgets in the latter half of the first decade of the 2000s, mostly the ipod and iphones. Microsoft released the Windows XP, which helped it a little bit, but after the release of the very aesthetic iMac, it lagged behind. Currently, Macintosh's seem to be winning the war, but it is far from over.
