no - but that game is not patched - so download the 3.17 patch and patch it :)
is this windows xp or vista?

XP;). I'm going to download it now.:D

EDIT: I'm supposed to unzip the folder in the Patch thingy in the documents. Am I correct?

EDIT2: It's probably the graphics card. The terrain is still all black

did the patch install? depending on the download mirror its usually a zip file that includes a .exe - that one needs to be run.
please on the windows desktop: click start, click run, type dxdiag, hit enter, click save results - then post that saved file here as a file attachment :)

I would like to comment again, ori. When I type "dxdiag", hitting enter only brings me to the next page of the Run program. Is the save hidden or something? Anyways, the patch did install completely. My guess is just that civ 4's graphics aren't compatible with the gc (graphics card) installed right now.

I think this is what ori is talking about:

ScreenShot002.jpg

Open the start menu and either type dxdiag into the search box and press enter or click the run command to the right and type dxdiag into the run box and then press enter. The machine then runs the dxdiag program and offers you an opportunity to save the resulting text file.

I had the same graphics problem when using my integrated graphics card. Not enough graphics memory or shaders to play Civ. I also got a "Hardware not good enough" message when I loaded Civ.

Good luck. :)
