no they cant, but they can live in high rises and stay in the friggin' city.

There is only so much room in a city. If you notice I live in Atlanta and I swear, this city is about to burst. And to drive from one end of metro Atlanta to the other takes an hour even if you do not drive during rush hour. You can only fit so many people in one spot before you must expand.

On topic, I really enjoy greenspace, however, I believe that you can't protest every time someone is going to cut down a tree. Trees are a renewable resource anyway. Cut one down and plant another somewhere else.

As for the actual protestors, if its public land, and there is no court order agianst them, more power to them. Like that Philosopher said (the name slips my mind)... "I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it." Same story here. Your can't block their right to protest as long as they are not viloent and abiding by the laws.

EDIT: found the name... Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

Don't really care what the cause is, I just like seeing idealists arrested.

You know, if they spent their ample free time utilizing their abilities and getting jobs, they could probably afford to buy & legally own the tree they're living on, preventing it from being chopped down. But its so much more fun to tell their friends they lived in a tree to protest.

Not that I think their position is necessarily wrong. There are so many other lush forests in the world to chop down, why start with our own? Lift Canadian imports barriers, the logging industry will suffer from stiff competition, more trees (here) will live, and we'll still have plenty of lumber. I'm happier.

Are there a lot of jobs that combine the ability to climb trees, play guitar, and hold your sphinctre shut for weeks on end? Jobs that could buy choice acreage out from under contractors?

Hey, its not my problem they don't have marketable job skills.

Maybe if they would feel more comfortable as a contributing member of society they wouldn't be prone to isolate themselves in a tree for weeks on end. If I believed in socialized medicine, I'd want a psychologist assigned to them to ask "Why do you love trees more than people"

I'm certain its a phallic thing...

Are they breaking the law, or protesting for their beliefs there?

I for one say that if they climb up the tree and phsyically try to sabotage the progress of our land, then I say throw 'em in the can.

Oh, having a political tantrum again, hmm?

Progress is a funny word, young Sharpe.

I guess you would call the USSR's industrial disasters "progress".
Like the lake in Chelyabinsk that will kill you if you stand next to it for one hour.

Great progress.

I think if a tree has been there since before the USA actually existed, then a concerned person
in a FREE COUNTRY (remember that?) should have the RIGHT to protest as long as it endangers no other persons lives.

Though those hippies that plant nails into tress to maim workers in lumber mills is a different thing altogether...

They should be busted.

I am a jackbooted fiend, but I love the sound of birds and animals around me.
And the sight of the glorious Scottish highlands, untouched by the hand of man.

And also, Amercia's natural beauty should be retained, don't you agree my young reaganite?

;)
