Okey,

Last night I dropped my hl2 dvd and it went to two pieces... 50 euros to trash... whee...

Now I decied to make EVERY game a copy... But I noticed that the civ4 dvd I burned didn't work. It only said Insert dvd, to be short it didn't work.. Did I burn it wrong? I have Nero I made by the wizard "make a copy". What is wrong, how can I get it working?

At a guess, the DVD might be copy-protected like movie DVDs. I don't think you will get anywhere with Nero.

CivIV uses Macrovision SafeDisc v4.60 fair use blocker (also known as "copy protection" or DRM).

You need to either run your images with latest versions of fair use rights restoring anti-DRM utilities or alternatively get a patched civilization4.exe from the net which removes SafeDisc.

Unfortunately the forum rules "Zero tolerance on piracy" means that it's probably not a good idea to post links to sites with carry these remedies, because in addition to being used to restore your rights as a consumer to make backup copies of a game you have bought and which consumer rights the game maker (actually the distributor) has "pirated" from you, these same tools can also be used to play the game without buying it.

Just do a Google search on "Civilization 4" and "SafeDisc".

Can we post google searches that lead in the right direction??? Does this violate policy? Actually I'd like some clarification on what is allowed and what is not. I think my three-day ban last week was unjustified given the way I posted the information. Unfortunately, I am not an admin and thus have no appeal rights.
