Making the Transition from Civ II

One thing I didn't mention about those problem cities is that they weren't connected with the imperial heartland -- they were on the other side of the continent, on the other side of the Persians. They had been fully improved, but I think the real problem was just that I couldn't get a meaningful garrison to them. I took a radical approach last night and just gave the remaining stranded cities to third parties, hoping to entangle them in war with the Persians and take some of the heat off of myself. It worked!

After that, things kind of took off. I took Persepolis with a shiny new military (discovering the mobilized economy option helped here, I hadn't noticed that before), bought peace with some extra gems, and watched my economy and science recover from the doldrums and rocket me into the industrial age in pretty good shape. Maybe I can play this game after all....?
