I am playing Ghengis on King level... trying to cut my teeth after moving up from Prince. I'm way ahead, but jesus... these Mandekalu cavalry are driving me crazy. I quit the game after I hit him with my own horse Keshik, and it hit him for 1 fricking point of damage. He has waded through my longswords and Keshik with those cavalry. I hit one cavalry with a trebuchet, three Keshiks and a crossbow and just barely killed it. 5 units vs. one?

Is this cheating or are those things just tanks?

It just seems so wrong. I'm about to take his capital, and then, voila... those fricking Mandekalus appear.

Not wrong at all, considering you didn't use any pikemen

Outside the city attack bonus, which shouldn't be a factor here, aren't Mandekalu Cavalry just like Knights? If that's the case (haven't played in a few months, so may not be), doesn't this thread become "Keshiks aren't good enough compared to Knights" thread? Because that'd just be silly. :p

Well as Mongolia (in the scenarios) I find knights to be the only thing that really threatens you, Keshiks only have 8 combat strength, a knight will easily beat it with almost no damage
Even then you should have no issues as Mongolia

Create a wall of Pikemen and position your Keshiks so that they can retreat behind them after attacking. That should take care of the Mandekalus.

Yes... easier said than done. I had pikemen, they got killed by his stupid archer and a pikeman. It's just weird. Thanks though! I will make more.

What you should be doing is using your Keshiks to farm experience (and thus get Logistics/Range promotions), but before that, get at least six swordsmen/longswords to front every assault into enemy territory.

Like here.

Fire at the enemy, then scoot back behind your wall of units. With Keshiks' five-tile movement, there should be no problem with this.

The trick is to get to Chivalry long before the AI, then your Keshiks won't be fighting M. cavs. Use snarzberry's strategy to get to Chivalry by T80 or so. On King the AI won't be anywhere close to Chivalry at this time.

1. Keshiks move 5 hexes - pillage their horses.
2. Keshiks move 5 hexes - manducavs move 3 hexes. Bait them with workers/scouts/whatever useless junk you have, flank and kill.
3. Forget 1 and 2 and just bring more damn keshiks! :D

Seriously, you can always bring pikes or LS to provide zone of control, but this is such a waste. Melee units slow keshiks down and thus should not be used. Instead you need to improve your keshik skills. ;)

Oh, he has the great wall. I don't know how to farm and get these advanced promotions... I don't get how people do that.

Yep. Actually, they don't get a "bonus" to attacking cities any more, they just don't get a penalty like most knights.

Finally killed him... then I see that all the city states have infantry, and I'm on Riflemen... not a good sign.

Invalid example, obelisk of doom has cursed Wu Zetian and all of her followers. There's no way she can win. :p

She did go Honor, so I presumed she sacrificed all those Barbs her men subdued to gain favor with The Things From Beyond.

Guess it wasn't enough.:(

Do you have Artillery, that's the important question.

Not yet. I give up. I'll start another game learning from my mistake. My mistake? Thinking that a few Keshiks, longswords and trebuchet were enough on King. Needed a bigger army.

Learn. Move on.

Dude, it's not over

Keep hammering the game till you win Domination. From the sounds of it, you still have your core cities intact and since this is King the AI won't be coming at you with as many units as they would on Emperor/Immortal. Start staffing your universities, buy off city-states behind Askia's lines, hell play off everyone else with whoever runaway is giving you immediate problems. If you have a nice goldstack, waste it on getting Trebs/Cannons out asap. Beeline Artillery.

It's not over until a Songhai Mech Inf crashes into your capital city.

ie. And yes, you can do with that few units on King. With Keshiks, its even more disgusting.
