I'm just wondering what turn everybody aims to have nukes for. In my current game I'm on turn 510 and only about to start the Manhattan project (epic). I guess that would equate to about turn 285 in standard if my mental math is correct. I think I'm a little slow but I'd like some input....maybe I'm being unrealistic.

I don't know exactly... usually I reach Atomic Theory by 1910-1930, in Emperor level. I don't know if it's slow or not. But I never get nuked by somebody else. Next game I'll try to trigger a nuclear war with Ganhdi :bump:

I don't usually even aim for nukes except when going for domination, I just get them as a protection when I've got everything else for my actual victory condition.

Nukes, in my eyes, aren't worth the trouble. Just get a handful if reactors and super spam stealth bombers. My two stealth bombers with Siege I, II and III, as well as logistics, evasion and air repair are more than a match for any nuke.

Nukes are the best for totaling an enemy troop position anyway, I only specifically target cities if they are very resilient. They can also hurt an enemy a lot if I don't want to indulge in conquest, simply destruction. Boom!

Don't forget to get a couple yourself, they can be used to intimidate the AI effectively.

I've always wondered whether the AI takes into account the fact you have nukes when deciding whether to DoW you or sue for peace during a war. My guess is that nukes simply add a significant amount to your military might. Is there a specific in-game modifier for having nukes?

To answer the OP, somewhere in the early 1900s sounds about right otherwise you risk the AI having too many of them. That said, I've only ever been nuked once and we can all guess who that was - Alex.

Nukes are very good at putting AIs in the "Afraid" state where they will yield in to tribute demands and refrain from causing trouble, at least.

I remember using nukes with great success in a game in which Japan was the last civilization alive on a foreign continent. The only way to their capital was across a chain of hills, at a considerable distance from the coast. I brought 3 nukes in a destroyer, sacrificed a tank for LoS to their capital, cooked it good with nukes and took it the same turn with some fresh tanks who were waiting on the hills around it. It was a great finish to a fun game as I remember. The alternative was a long, boring attrition war with Oda, as he had almost no coastal cities...

The AI has initimidated me with nukes so I think it would be fair that it got initimidated if we have them and it doesn`t.

I hate building nukes as I don`t see them as a joke (even though they are nothing compared to the real thing). I just build them for protection and just hope I won`t have to use them.
