how can i open and edit an savedgame-map?
(i can't open it with the civ3editor?)

I am trying to edit Carolus' Europe to India Map (340x200) and its not working. The download appears to be a c3c biq file that can be played, but plays as a PTW or Vanilla game. I want to move the map into conquests and add the neew rules and civs.

I'm trying to load the biq into the editor and it won't go. When I click on import in the editor, I get the dialog box and have checked maps and rules, just maps, just rules. I get the same two two errors each time:
"not a conquests scenario file"
followed by:
"some requested BIC data not found" path info "partial import performed"

No map data shows in the editor.

Part of my question includes what is the difference between bix, bic and biq files?

How do I get an existing map into the editor?

How can i convert this pre conquests biq into a conquests game?

Any ideas?

for me it opens with C3C Editor...which version did you got?

try to remove the "." in front of the "map" in filename, maybe thats the problem?

Thanks.
I've been working with a biq file not a map file. I downloaded this:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Eurindia.map1.zip

The unzipped biq file is named europe-to-india.map.biq
I renamed it without the . before map. same error
I renamed again deleting the - s and again no luck.
I am going to the file/import dropdown menu in the openning editor screen.

just start the C3C Editor, and open the biq file, no need to import it's just for bic/bix files, .biq are C3C scenario files

Ok. Still didn't work, but when I double clicked on the biq file it opened right away into the editor!? So I renamed it and saved.

When I went to civs, it listed the current ones, in fact everything (rules, civs) seems to be set at pre conquests. Is there a simple way to add the conquest civs and wonders etc.?
I appreciate your help in this.

hmm, try "rules"--->"Restore Default Rules" that should set the default Conquest rules, but all special rules of that map (if there are any) will get lost

Yes that did it. Yea!! As you can probably tell, I'm doing this for the first time. I want to be able to play it as a variable scenario on this map.
The resources seemed fixed, will they stay that way or will they change each game?
I added goody huts.
Do I need to assign start locations to specific civs or can I just have 16 locations and will the game assign however many are being played to one of the locations?

The recources stay were they are

You don't need to assign the starting locations to a specific civilization. The game will place the civs randomly no matter how many civs there are, but if you want Persians to start in Persia, you will have to put a start location there and assign it to persians

Thanks, I'll probably try it randomly at first to see how it plays. The map is so huge I'm afraid it will be unplayable by lthe end of the middle ages. Any editing suggestions to reduce the lag?

Have you played the original version or made a new one?

Kenta'arka:
I checked "starting location" on some tiles then reassigned them to the active civ in thinking that that civ would start at that tile. It seems that all my locations have dissappeared and only the active one shows up. is taht how starting locals are assigned?

I'm not sure if I understand your problem...if you play with less civs than start locations, then some SL won't show up in game

In editor the SL shouldn't disappear

Thanks for your help in this, but frustration drove me to mess around all evening and I figured it all out.

In the scenario tab I hadn't selected all the civs I wanted, only the one I was placing at the moment. So It was if I had only one civ in the game. Duh!

Also I found that I have 2 versions of Civ edit (1.4 & 1.5) and that I had been using the earlier pre conquests one, causing the initial load problems.

I actually got the scenario going last night and played a couple of thousand years. Because the terrain is very lopsided, resources are too. No saltpeter or oil in western Europe!

The map size and relative emptiness crates an advantage for expansionist civs exploiting goody huts to get a tech lead, but the huge distances means that there is little contact between civs. I put in starting locations for all the civs except: china japan, korea, and the new world civs. I started the zulus south of Egypt along the nile and India at the mouth of the Indus river.

I'm thinking of adjusting the time scale to make it an ancient age to middle ages scenario.

I imported Rise of Rome Rules into the Europe to India map. My resources are now messed up. RR does not have oil are alum but when I residtributed resources I got a ton of oil and alum all over the place. Neither oil or alum is listed in the current rules for the scenario. Any ideas on what is happening?
