A map that would be really useful for making scenarios would be a map of North America (mainly the US), for Civil War, Age of Discovery, Native Americans, etc. However, one right now is lacking, so I'm putting forth this map request to get some interest going. I'm currently making one with the BMP2WBS utility, but I'm sure someone else could come up with a better map. Here are some specifications:

Northern boundry: Around Hudson Bay. The Arctic isn't necessary.
Southern boundry: Either Florida, or Cuba. Doesn't matter.
Western boundry: Pacific Ocean, where it meets California.
Eastern boundry: Around St. Johns and Nova Scotia.
Size: Around 100 x 66, give or take.

A good map to work off of: click. Those are the dimensions I sort of want (Pacific can be cropped a bit). I'm sure any atlas will give good physical and political maps of the area. Resources placed on the map would be nice, but not necessary. Thanks to anyone that takes this challenge on, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would appreciate it. :goodjob:

I'll see what I can do, though right now I'm working on my carribean map. I prefer a map that doesn't have much text or anything else going on. Just the geography and coastline. Its much easier to set up my grids on maps that aren't busy like that one.

Nice work on finding some good maps. I think I can make the time for you, consider it a present for the holidays. I will use the plain map for the geography and then the topographic map can aid with the poloshing the terrain with hills and other features.

How does 78x62 sound for dimensions?

Ok, first draft is complete. Just got the basic shape and the lakes established. Now to add rivers and mountains later. I'll bounce between this and my carribean map I suppose for a while.

Bezurn, wow, you are fast! When I load the "Load a Scenario" screen, it says "Failed to read worldbuilder file "NorthAmerica.Civ4WorldBuilderSave"". (I renamed it to that, but I got it with the orginal name too). Any ideas? Do you have patch 1.52? However, it still loads -- and it is great! A perfect size and dimensions. Many thanks.

Ah, you mean the startup message? I think I saw that once or twice, but I just reloaded that file now and all seems in order on startup. I do have 1.52 installed, maybe that has something to do with it?

Glad you like it and be sure to share any improvements you make to it.

I was wrestling with the river generator a lot after I finished that version, its so tricky to get them to look nice and natural in the paths they are supposed to follow. *sigh* Wonder if hard coding the rivers would help some, though that doesn't sound like a fun task to accomplish either.

Well time to drink some egg nog now, night night.

Two minor things:

1: Could you make Chesapeake Bay accessible from the ocean?
2: Could you shift the great lakes over a few more tiles west? I feel they are bit too close to the coast, but maybe that is just me.

And yeah, that message I got before is gone.

Been a busy day, just got around to checking the forums. Here is your modified map, with the great long name you know you like :p

v0.0.2
- Shifted great lakes west 2 tiles
- Opened up the chesapeake bay for ocean traffic!

might have more time to work on the topography the next couple of days, but no promises.
