i just got civ 4. . . during the game (from the start) all the land is black (even places I have already been to) the place that my unit is on or near or that is within my cities boundaries is completely black. I can see any resorces on top of it like cows or trees, and if i put the cursor on it i can see how many sheilds it has etc. but the actual water, hill, or grass is just black,
WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!?!

Hi Ori - It appears the map is essentially blank and progressivley fills in as the game goes in. At this point my problem is the leaders faces are not displayed. Getting tried of looking at eyeballs, epaulets and dentures, lol. Any advice?

Many thanks.:):)

@apprais71:
sorry for the delayed answer - my internet connection right now is only intermittent so I will be slow to respond for a week or two:
the problem is that your graphics card is actually below minimum specs - though it works for some people. I never asked: did you patch the game? 1.74 supposedly did solve some of the floating eyes problems. If you did not do so and update your directx install from microsoft's website - 1.74 needs a newer directx version to run...

Thanks ori. Interesting thing, this is actually my wife's computer, she refuses to connect to the internet so no updating; talk about old school. My notebook is even older though it functions well for business. So I'll look elsewhere on this forum for hardware recommendations and purchase a new computer helping to stimulate the economy. Good luck on your internet connection, weather related? Thanks again.
