Map will be bigger once you discover the appropriate Tech?

When I start on a small map and go to strategy view, the map counts 16 or 17 blocks horizontally. Each block contains roughly 2.5 hexes.

When I start on a huge map and go to strategy view, I also see 16 or 17 blocks horizontally, with ceach block containing roughly 2.5 hexes.

So it appears like the small and huge maps are just the same size... But I remember from some older Civ game that the map will become or appear bigger once you research Navigation, Cartography or something like that.

Is that also the case with CIv VI? If so, which tech do I need to "unlock" the total map?

You've only ever been able to see a certain number of hexes around you, until you actually explore those hexes. Look at how the minimap used to change in CiV, no?
