Maps don't always wrap around?

I know the scenarios sometimes (always?) feature maps that have a 'solid wall' on the end. You know the gray 'twilight zone' kind of 'falling off the end of the earth' maps.

I was playing a random game last night and realized my map was the same way. You can't keep going on this map, you hit 'the wall' and have to turn around.

What up with this? It certainly sucks. People can get a starting point in the corner and they are seriously un-attackable if you have to march all the way across the map to get to them.

It's Map script dependant. West vs East, North vs West., Great Plians.

Usually scripts that do not have large ocean surrounding them are going to end up with the so called "wall".

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'map script'?

So any map that does not have an ocean will have the wall? Bummer. Looks like I'll be playing on more ocean maps. Maybe this is why when I pick 'random' it always gives me continents-ocean.

On my current 'wall' map Monty had a good little deal in the corner, WAAAAAY away from pretty much everyone (except one little Civ he gobbled up). He is invincible now.

Not necessarily related to ocean. That can be script dependent, and for premade maps it's totally map dependent.
It offers an option to make maps for parts of the world. Because it would be pretty stupid to have a wrapping Europe map.

Maps in Civ are the world.

The world is ROUND.

You should never have to go ALL THE WAY AROUND THE WORLD to get somewhere.

You should be able to get anywhere by going halfway around the world.

So yes, Civ maps should wrap. Maybe not in scenarios. But any map you get randomly?

Yeah.

Why not give a choice, as in Civ4? Flat, round, or toroid (toroids make no sense to me, but whatever). I'd love to see a choice for polar maps.
