This is the updated version of what will be a set of maps for scenarios and games using the setting of David Edding's Belgariad and Malloreon novel series. They are still a bit rough and I would appreciate any feedback or ideas for improvment, especially on resource placement.

This zip file contains the old version maps as well as the new version. The only difference between them is the randomization of starting locations. The first two maps all players are preselected and have set starting locations. The new map has 23 possible starting locations and will create as many players as you have set to start on a huge map.

The current maps are:
Huge 120x60 with 18 players (static start)
Huge 120x60 with 12 players (static start)
Huge 120x60 (random start)

Coming soon in version 3:
Adjusting the positioning of the continents to be slightly more south in the map, extending the playable area to the north!
Reworking Cherek and the ice bridge regions!
Even more starting locations!

I think this is a great idea thanks for the work. I love Eddings books and especially this series. BTW a screnie would be appreciated.

here you go: the 18 civs version

maybe a little more plains in Algaria, and a little more mountians in riva, if you can, make the cherek
bay a little bigger, and don't forget the ice bridge at the top (it might be there, but i'm just looking
at the screenshot and can't really tell)

Only problem I can see is that all of the western kingdoms are going to be so small compared to Mallorea and Murgo land, especially Cherek, Drasnia and Riva.

I just finished part 2 of the Belgariad, Queen of Sorcery...
I agree with captain beaver on the map, Cherek is like 1 city big? :(

Err...just had a thought....

Maybe we could make some custom civs for the map as well? The races are certainly well described - we could make an entire mod out of this!

Chereks would have sailing bonuses, Algars would have mounted bonuses, etc....The great people could be the main characters and/or gods.....:D

Anyone willing to take up the gauntlet on this one, or are y'all gonna make me figure all this stuff out for myself? :crazyeye:

Gr3yHound, thanks for posting the screenshot. I've been rather busy lately, but trying to move ahead on the map development.

washington00, Algaria is already pretty much all plains, except for the hills around Stronghold and a few grasslands sprinkled in for variety. As a personal preference, I don't like large regions of uniform appearance, so I try to break up the monotony somewhat. Riva is already rather hilly and adding mountains onto an already small island area would significantly reduce area for a city to farm.
The ice bridge should be in the next updated version I will post.

Captain Beaver, Yes, the angarak/malloerean lands do vastly outnumber the western kingdoms. Nothing I can do about that without vastly departing from the published material ;) The base map was created using the BMPtoWBS utility on a bitmap I scanned and pasted together from several books. In a generic map like it currently is, this shouldnt be a problem. Some work would need to be done to balance it for scenarios from the novels (perhaps adjusting resources, etc).

Cherek is a bit small, I'm thinking of reworking it a bit to see what can be done.

WetWarev7, Yeah, it is a great idea. Unfortunately, I have no artistic skills myself to do all of the useful leaderheads, buttons, flags, etc. I have been thinking about adding in some leader personalities and other xmlable type things though. Drop me a line via PM and we can see what we can arrange.

Thanks all,
Trinsic

I finished reading book 3, Magician's Gambit today. I wonder how you can possibly have a city as powerful as Rak Cthol in the middle of a desert, on a peak, with Civ's rules... :hmm:
