"Multiple events" isn't a good description but it's accurate. Not sure if this is a bug, as in a glitch, or a bug as bad programming. Not really sure what happened. But a bunch of unexpected events happened when I hit next turn, all at once. At least some of these events seem to be mistakes. I'm giving some detailed background on the circumstances, since I don't know for sure what the trigger was, but I'm suspicious it was a diplomatic issue.
Playing yesterday on a Standard continents map, Standard Speed, as Trajan. On a large continent with England and Scythia, plus a couple of unconquered CS. I'm playing a peaceful strategy with an eye on a Science victory as my best chance in the Industrial era. I've developed some tech lines up to the Modern era. Given this map, I probably should have built more ships, but I currently have 2 caravels parked off my coast until I feel like upgrading them. Due to conflicts with Arabia, on a continent just off my west coast, I'm planning a limited cassus belli Religious War to push him back a bit. In fact, I've already denounced him and my units are en route. There's another large land mass to his west than contains Mongolia, France, Congo and an unknown player (turns out to be Egypt). I've allied with France (Defensive and Economic) and England (Economic) and am declared friends with Congo and Scythia. I've denounced Mongolia, which is at war with France. I have several suzerain CS, but they are all on my own continent. I have some envoys at other CS around the globe, but I haven't met any on that third land mass I can't see.
On the turn before everything goes haywire, I decide that I want to conduct a flurry of diplomatic activity ahead of the war with Arabia. I may have set that second Economic treaty with France; not sure. I do some trades with various friends and allies for sure. Some of my caravan routes also update around this time and I may have directed one or more to France's mainland cities for the first time.
I hit next turn. Most of what happens during the update is what I expect. Everyone holds on to the same cities. No one new goes to war with anyone. But... the updater informs me of a bunch of staff that it says has happened:
-- I discovered the Dead Sea and get Event credit.
-- The map reveals the entirety of the continent containing France and Mongolia at once. (Congo must be on a smaller island or peninsula after all.) It's this part of the changes that make me think this is a diplomatic issue.
-- I suddenly have the relics from three martyred Apostles. I had none previously, did not have any apostles who died during the update and had never captured a city containing relics.
-- I suddenly meet Egypt who has three isolated cities on a far corner of Arabia's continent, but I had no units near them and don't see any Egyptian units near my units or cities. I cannot see the map around Egypt, only the three cities.
-- Game says I've circumnavigated the globe, but the map shows that I haven't even discovered all the longitudes, either by revelation or navigation.
-- I pop a Great Merchant. This one might have nothing to do with the rest.
I think at least a couple other things happened as well, but it took me by surprise. Anyone else seen something like this?
