Hi, just wanted some advice. I have read in the Civopedia that the Marketplace makes citizens happy if you have luxury resources. I cannot remember the ratio offhand but I had two luxury resources and the marketplace did not affect the citizens at all. I did get the bonus money but as I said, no happy citizens.
Thanks,
Kev.

Two luxuries are too few to reap happyness benefits from markets. You need at least three for it to make a difference.

Without a market, you get for every different lux one happy face, for a possible maximum of eight:
1st-1; 2nd-1; 3rd-1; 4th-1; 5th-1; 6th-1; 7th-1; 8th-1

With a market, you get one happy face for each of the first two; two happy faces for luxes no. 3 & 4 each; three happy faces for luxes no. 5 & 6; and four happy faces for luxes no. 7 & 8:
1st-1; 2nd-1; 3rd-2; 4th-2; 5th-3; 6th-3; 7th-4; 8th-4

If you have all eight luxuries, you should get twenty happy faces with a market, as opposed to the eight without a market.

Luxes plus Markets make content citizens happy, right, and unhappy ones content. So on Demigod how many happy and content faces would you get in a city of 12 with a Marketplace, 5 different Luxuries and no other happiness buildings (Temples, Colosseums, etc.)? Thanks.

"faces" usually refers to icons on the luxuries etc.. 5 luxuries with marketplace give 2+4+3 = 9 Happy faces.

Happy faces turn content citizens into happy citizens. If no content citizens are left, then a happy face will instead turns an unhappy citizen into a content citizen.

At Demigod 1 citizen starts content. So you will have 1 + 8/2 = 5 happy citizens and 12-5=7 unhappy citizens.

This leaves you with a defizit of 2 goods faces. 2 happy faces from luxury rate or 2 content faces from a colloseum will du the trick. The luxury rate is of course preferable, but Bach(2 content faces in every city on the continent) is also an option. In all 3 cases the result is the same. 6 happy citizens and 6 unhappy citizens. That is just enough and you donnot need more than just enough.

Much obliged for your precise reply justanick. That's it in a nutshell. Cleared up any uncertainty I had about Luxes, Markets and citizen moods.
