HELLO WORLD LEADERS.

I would really appreciate any gaming tips/ hints/ help you can give me to get started.

how do i build more than one city?
how do i build more than one civilian? i'm getting militia at a rate of knots.
hows the online play? is Games spy as hit and miss with CIV3. as it is with ROME?

any advice would be greatly received. i'm sure i'll have more questions, but i won't make things any more confusing for myself... cheers all. i mean, HAIL!

Welcome to CFC!

1. build a settler. then move it to a spot that's not a mountain or volcano and it's not next to an existing city and hit "b" to build the city. note that the settler takes away 2 population points when it is built.

2. do you mean worker? just build a worker in the city once you have a population greater than 1.

3. don't know. my game crashes when I try to play multi.

1. Build a settler. Settler moves. Settler builds.
2. Build a worker. Worker moves. Worker does.
3. Best online play's the Play By Email. It's slow paced, so you can pay attention to detail. (And thus GameSpy's no use)

you guys don't mess about do you? cheers muchly. keep it coming.

e-mail you say, how does that work?
this game does look amazing, just frustrated it's not immediate. Burnout 3 it is not!
will stick with it though.

You email the save game to whoever's turn it will be next, etc., etc.

It works by you playing your turn, then you send the Save attatched to an E-mail to whomever you are playing with, and then you wait for them to send it back with an updated save. At least that's how I think it works. Too lazy to get my manual and doubble check.

Oh yeah don't bother playing regular online games because the people who play them are a bunch of jerks.

Cool, i'll pm you very soon, getting late  and i'm still fairly new to all this e-mail w/ files and pc's in general. i didn't get a booklet with my game and i can't be arsed to read the files  .

- Do you know how to change what you are building ??
and Militia ... that sounds Civ 2 to me. You are currently in the Civ 3 forum.

HAIL!

There are a couple of different ways to play on line using Conquests.

Play By E Mail (PBEM)-Send an email with with your game to the next person in line. (Sounds like it would take years to me, So I ll never do it.)

Hot Seat- Share one computer. This is not to bad (but I havent played it using Conquests, only Civ II)

Over a network- This is ideal and is even better then in the real game because you can trash talk other players and do more complex things then you can in the standard game. There are two options in the game: Simultaneous Movement or Standard. Standard Movement-Everyone moves on their turn and waits for everyone else to catch up. Simultaneous-Everyone moves at the same time, although you still have to wait for everyone else to finish up thier movements on the same turn.

Standard is slower and using simultaneous is more interesting for me.

I didn't Play Rome, but ive played MP several times and have had no problems. The system worked pretty smoothly for me.

No, I'm talking about the losers from Case's Ladder who think they're all cool because they can italicize their names.

Welcome to CFC, Uzumaki Ringu! [party]

Gotta love the extreme newbie questions, it's like teaching someone to walk! :goodjob:

Right-click on the city and select "Zoom to ". When in the city view, left click on the icon showing what's being produced.

Or use the "Change production" option (it just hit me, I've never used this option!).

Hi Uzumaki Ringu

and welcome to Civ ... many sleepless nights are in store for you :D

Regarding multiplaying ... I would visit this area ... it outlines the various multiplayer options ... http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=87

As you can see I am currently involved in 3 public games ... the frustration is that sometimes real life causes the games to hang (especially around holidays and for many exam times) ...

I'd think hard about joining a pbem game because the worst thing is someone dropping out ... happened to us in one game ... but managed to find a replacement .... :)

Before you concider joining a pbem game ... I would firstly get more familiar with the game ... and then post your details on the Players want a Game thread ...

Regards :goodjob:

Welcome to Civ!

My advice for newbies; play alot, this is the way you will learn, start off at chieftan, there's no shame in that, then move up the difficulty as you learn, ask alot of questions, read the War Academy and other articles posted here.

I had a hard time for a while with Civ, until I got serious about learning how to play. Now I can play rather effectively at regent and although I don't have a win on monarch yet, can at least put up a good competition at that level. It didn't happen though until I made Civ my hobby, and focused on playing on a regular basis, and really learn it, and not get so frustrated by losses but learn from them. I can blow off a loss now and do better the next go around, and I think that's the key. Anyways, enjoy Civ, it's a fabulous game.

And yes, I would agree that those that I've seen who play regular multiplayer Civ games are rather like jerks. I got the boot so many times I never got to play. PBEM is the way to go for multiplayer, you can play at your own pace and not have to make a huge commitment in time.
:king:

ok, i just had another crack at it. i built my city (on rock & roll) upgraded straight after, and my worker/ settler dissappeard..? still getting armies but no worker / settlers? am i rushing it?

upgraded straight after
- > Upgraded ?? What is that ?
I guess you merged your worker into the city. That is the only way I can think of to loose your worker.
A settler is "consumed" when it builds a city (on rock 'n roll) so that is nothing strange.

Advise: upload a saved game when you don't know what to do, what is happening or what has happened. Most experienced players know and can tell you.
