Master of Orion 2 Multiplayer

I can not seem to get any of the MOO2 multiplayer options to work on XP (Pro or Home) and 2000 Pro. When I try the network option I get a comm error. Is there some way to fix this so I can play with my cousins over my network?

You need the 1.4 patch for XP and follow these instructions for a LAN game:
