Maxed Out Cities

What do you do with them? Once all the improvements are built, I usually build and sell SDI defenses over and over. I wish you could just build trade like you can in civII.

My cities generall build settlers, who get killed trying to colonise hostile terrirory

Build units, and, in the words of the CivII Mil Adv, go knock some heads.

I usually start building military units too, but if there's no need for them I'll build diplomats/caravans, since they don't require upkeep. I remember once having at least 100 diplomats running around and guarding the coast so that noone could invade

Yeah I do something similar too.
But more often I just build/sell something like CityWalls over and over...
Then I've got LOOOOTS of money!
It's a real pity that there is no such thing as Capitalisation in Civ1...

My maxed out cities start building caravans and trade with each other. After that they start building spacship parts in order for other cities to catch up building improvements. Once every city is maxed out I build nothig but military units and go on the rampage.
