Hi, I know one way to maximize profit from caravans is changing the tax rate all the way up. Do you have to do this a turn in advance or can you do it right before the caravan arrives? Also, when you change all the resources to the squares with max trade arrows do you have to do that in advance or can you do it right before it arrives?

What other factors other than location, foreign control, and tax settings affect caravan profits (apart from obvious, city improvments etc..)? And beakers from caravans?

Here is Samson's definitive thread on Calculating Caravan/Freight Delivery Bonus:

Changing tax rates should have no effect, but increasing the Trade Arrows in the source and destination cities (if possible) would have an effect, and need only be done just before the delivery happens. I park the camel right outside the city with a Wait command, jump back to it's source city and maximize trade arrows, go back and deliver the camel, then immediately go back to the source city and rebalance the workers. During the delivery you can have a large food or production shortage with no ill effects, but don't forget to go back and fix things afterwards (nothing like having a few units disbanded on you to learn that lesson for good).

This is another random question: If you rest a unit (spacebar) after it has used 1 of it's two turns, does it still get a full heal?

No, when it's just wandering the earth, if you skip the turn it heals some hp. If you use up 1 of a 2 movement rate unit and then skip the remaining turn, does it heal the same as if you had skipped the turn with 2 moves?
