Maya Mod- Requesting Help

I am currently creating my first mod- a Mayan civilization. However, being my first mod, I am also relatively clueless about what I am doing.
So far I have:

A leader, with personality flavors set (though they may be erratic at the moment)- Siyaj K'ak'

A list of cities (Currently 14, though I can add many more). Capital is at Tikal.

A civ icon design, which I cannot convert to .dds at 45x45 or 80x80 sizes.

Set preferences for starting location (By Jungle and Coast, avoid Desert and Tundra).

Civilopedia entries, albeit small ones

Civ colors and UU/UI ideas, though I have no idea how to implement them.

So, currently, I need help with the following:

Getting a leaderhead (An image of the leader may not be possible, but I can't seem to convert any image with the proper dimensions).

Conversions of the icon at two sizes.

Actually putting in the colors, UU, UI, etc.

Finding and placing a UA.

I don't know what I want for a combat UU yet, but I'd like to add a civilian UU that can construct a unique improvement, "Temple Complex" (Possibly the graphic for the Chichen Itza wonder?), which would provide +1 culture, +1 gold(?), and some sort of promotion to combat units (I think that may be similar to how the DLC Polynesia's Moai(sp.) works, but the only DLC I have is Mongolia).

Is anyone capable of assisting with these?
 
After working some more, I have added a more complete list of cities, and have determined the UI/Civilian UU and UA I want to use-
UI- Temple Complex, provides + 1 culture and + 1 gold, Faster Heal for unit stationed there.
UU1 (Civilian, constructs Temple Complex)- Mayan Priest (yes, I know the priests didn't actually build the temples, but I don't have a better idea. Feel free to comment.)
UA- Unnamed, but +1 production and +1 food in cities (Just capital?) per puppet state.

I don't have these in the mod yet, I'm not quite sure how I should do that (which is where advice would be nice).
Still can't convert a leaderhead, 80X80, or 45X45 icon to DDS.
Still need to put in color borders.
Still need a military UU.

Any tips/ideas/suggestions?

By the way, this is not online yet, because it is still too incomplete to run (I think).
 
Ok, for a military UU, should I use:
Mayan war canoe- would replace Trireme
Halach Uinic (I apologize if I mangled that, I'm getting the name off of wikipedia)- Uncertain of what that would replace, possibly a warrior- historically, it's a kind of religious/political figure, which would have been used to lead troops in war.
 
If you know how to handle .lua scripts you can create new UI. If not .xml files will not be enough to do what you want.
Many subjects of which you speak are treated on the forum, you need to do a few searches.
 
Ok, so version 1 of the mod is finished.
Here are the features:
Mayan Civilization
Leader- Siyaj K'ak'
UA- Mesoamerican Warlord (theoretically, all courthouses should be free)
UU1- Halach Uinich- replaces warrior, 8 strength instead of 6, heals every turn
UU2- War Canoe- replaces trireme, has 60% bonus against land units, +1 vision, 2 attacks per turn, but gets a penalty vs. naval and loses a movement point (3 instead of 4)
Capital is at Tikal

And the reason that there are no screenshots is that I can't get it to run. Go figure.
And I can't upload the files here, for some reason.
As soon as I can fix that, I'll post here.
Any thoughts on the ability/units? Overpowered, Underpowered?
 
Attached is the civ so far, however, it doesn't work.
If anyone would mind trying to troubleshoot it for me, that would be great.
I am going to have a leaderhead (one of Optik's design, its in his Maya thread currently, and thanks to him for allowing me to use it), but its not in this version.
Anyways, current version is supposed to have:
Icons at all sizes except 45x45 and 80x80
Montezuma's leaderhead
A unique personality
A UA- all courthouses should be free
Two UU's- Halach Uinich (should use aztec graphic, warrior unit flag) & War canoe (should be a trireme with several free promotions, better range, worse movement)
A complete city list, capital at Tikal.
Preference for Jungle, Coastal starts
Avoidance for Desert, Tundra starts.
Any suggestions as to the problems or as to changes are welcome.
