I've been searching the forums for a pretty generic cavalry w/ a sword, but I couldn't seem to find one. With all the new unit makers showing up lately, I thought I'd try my hand at it. This is a pretty simple model change, mostly I just modified the helmet and retextured the companion cavalry unit. I'm still pretty mesmerized (at least for the moment :crazyeye: ) on how to make Nifskope changes other than Nifswaps and texture changing.

So here it is; a Medieval Light Cavalry. :D

Mmm... good unit for Barbarian horsemen. Better such one instead of the Mongol looking archer they use now. :D
 
flintlock how did you make the jump from LHs to units? whats the difference?

Which LHs did he make? I'd like to pick them apart for ideas!

EDIT: By the way, I've made a lot of units myself, I can help you with them Ekmek if you have a means for me to IM you or Skype you. I just didn't independently release them, they are all releases with my module packs.

For this unit I just used the same exact techniques as I used for LH making. :) I basically only Blendered the Helmet and cape of the Companion Cavalry unit from Vanilla, and Nifswapped it. I still don't know how to actually truly use Nifskope, but I think Capo or The_Coyote could help you out. :D As I understand it, some units won't import unless you use a sort of workaround. :rolleyes:

I'd recommend The_Coyote's Nifskope tutorial. I'll try to help as I dive into that, and as he said, just ask Capo For help as well.

For some reason everytime I try to import a unit into Blender it doesn't show up. I can't figure out why (and I've tried both the "unit" scale and "leaderhead" scale too, so its not that).
 
thx guys. i dont want to hijack flintlock's thread but my main issue is that when i export the nif from blender and then do the nifswap the unit won't show up in game and causes a crash. Do you guys merge materials? I've heard that is what needs to be done (I havent tried it yet). Have you guys tried colonization units I think that may be an issue too.

ONtopic: I think this unit will be great for Mare Nostrum - giving it to the natives/barbarians.
 
I honestly don't mind if the disscusion is held here. :)
I really didn't do anything special. When I did the swap I only swapped out the rider, as that was the only thing I changed. I don't know what 'merge materials' is, but I didn't do anything like that.
What kind of Blender are you using? I have 2.48a and I just click 'Civilization 4' when I export.
This is the only unit I've tried thus far, so I don't know if there which units work & which don't. :hmm:
 
Nifscope is simple; use the_coyote's tut. Iit is a little confusing, but i learned enough there to make units by simply swapping meshes.

I also examined other units and learned how to rebone from there, although my reboned units have a slightly different architecture.
