Memorable bands of the 00's

Admit it: The standard has been appaling relative to past decades. there been no Nirvana, exploding onto the scene and overthrowing saccharine pop, no Sex Pistols, shocking the mainstream, no Abba writing pop songs which will be remembered for decades and decades.

I second this. Music of the last 15 years has really been awful.

You can always find good music if you look hard enough, trust me. My friend always listens to music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and thats fine, there are plenty of good bands from that era. But you don't need to go back to that time to find music that is unique and original.

Also: Kids have no respect for their elders. Back in my day, they'd get a smack for that sort of language. Furthermore: things cost less.

It depends on what your criteria for remembered is. Music videos? Hits? Songs themselves? Band in general? Influence of said band?

For Music videos, some music videos that are sure to be remembered are Charlie (RHCP) and Here it goes again (OK Go). Why? Both are youtube music videos. Charlie was FILMED AND DONE by fans of RHCP. Here it goes again has a HUGE number of views, and is renowned and made a small band big because of the treadmills. (note: I FULLY expect it to be known as the treadmill song, not here it goes again, but it WILL be remembered).

Hit songs of the 00's? Hopefully not umbrella, fergalicious, glamourous, or songs like that, but I have a feeling they will be.

Two words: Hey Ya!

GODDOM IT, GODDOOM IT!

We Have

WOLFMOTHER!

They are even better than Muse or Radiohead, just because they mess hard stonar (raw rock, as I call it) with alternative.

Also, let us not forget

Supergrass

The fact that they belong to the 90's does not mean that they belong only to the 90's.

What about

The Hives

Really, really nice garage band! Eventhought they are Sweden (j/k, j/k)

What happened with

Audioslave

They were great, alternative and hardrock again, but with more alt. and some post-grunge. Sadly, they were.

And to continue the list:

OutKast, Muse, Gorillaz, Radiohead, SOAD, Lounge against the Machine, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers (look Supergrass), The Prodigy (look Supergrass again, and no, Prodigy's last 2 albums were great, not a tragedy), Global Deejays (I don't like them much, but they form the kid electro movement), Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys and many more...

Goddoom it, the fact that we have Linkin Park and Eminem in the 00's doesn't mean that we don't have cool music. Just MTV is trying to kill it, that's all.

Oh my god. If Wolfmother become memorable I think I might have to shoot myself. Or everybody else.

Where Arwon have been...

Wake Up, Dude! We're in the 2000's, the years of computer techs and Britney Spears! I don't remember many bands that still use lamp synthezators now... Wolfmother rocks!

That doesn't mean that those music groups who use that type of sounds are of a horrid nature. In fact if you talk about personal preferences alternative is among the worst music types out there on the market. Most pop(which also tends to be of a rather lame nature IMO could blow that crap out of the water so badly that it would make the Guinness Book of World Records.

I'm from their country. I've seen them live twice at festivals, there was a year in Australia where they were everywhere and I am totally sick of them. The idea that they'll still be around or remembered in ten years is a horrible prospect. I hope everyone forgets about them, in fact I think it might already be happening.

Regardless of the sound of the music, I dislike the message of many of the new musical pieces (in comparison to the 60's early 70's). I mean its gone from:
"What would you do if I sang out of tune" (With a Little Help from my Friends, The Beatles)
to:
"What would you do if I came after you" (ok, its really "what you gonna do when I come after you", from some rap I once heard).
In addition, alot of the past music was open to interpretation like a piece of fictional literature (well, at least the material I analyse daily in English class) is, whereas now it seems much more dull/pointless
Although, I must admit I don't listen to too much modern mainstream music so I may be off on points.

Anybody else here think that lyrics have just gotten way to direct these days?
