I have been using BAT 1.2 and its made my game crash when i have been loading saved games. Ive been advised that this is because BAT 1.2 is running an outdated version of Varietas Delectat and the latest version is Varietas Delectat v6.1. I have browsed this forum and various other websites for an hour or two and cant find any decent information on how to do this correctly. I find too many confusing posts and no coherent steps on how to do this. So...

I want to merge BUG 3.6, King Kong's Flags & Colours Mod and with the unit graphic changes of Varietas Delectat v6.1 (Just the unit graphics, not the Add-on or any other changes Varietas Delectat v6.1 brings).

To my understanding this will not make my load time between turns slower because it does not change gameplay, hopefully im right. So what is the best way to go about this? I would guess take the graphic unit change folder from Varietas Delectat v6.1 and put them in a BUG 3.6 Folder.. or something similar.

Im not a pro civ fanatics forum reader so i can get lost with all the acronyms people use. Type of method im looking for; Put X in Y folder, Change Z to W, Remove A, Add B.... etc.

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

The first thing I would try is the easy solution:

  1. Download and install BUG 3.6
  2. Downlaod and install VD 6.1
  3. Copy everything in VD's Assets folder to BUG's Assets folder
Now to try it:

  1. Rename "BAT Mod 1.2" to something else
  2. Rename folder "BUG Mod 3.6" to "BAT Mod 1.2"
  3. Cross your fingers :)
If you're really lucky, it will work with just that. If you want to strip out parts of VD, you'll need to ask the VD guys how to do it.

BTW, the reason for the renaming is that the mod's folder is embedded in each saved game. This is only necessary to continue your existing saved games.

You must have done the single-player install (default). This won't work for what you're trying to do, though. Uninstall BUG and reinstall and make sure to select multiplayer. Then it will be in the Program Files Mods folder.

I play Varietas with BUG and Blue Marble and never have had a problem or had to switch folders around or anything. I installed BUG first, not as a mod. Then installed Varietas without Modern Era expansion (you can choose those options in the installer). Voila! Everything works. Having BUG as not a mod makes any game you start I guess use BUG and I have had a few issues with other mods because of it but since I play 99% Varietas I have no problem with it.

True, that is a way to go. I was thinking still about the old saves, but if you don't care about them, using single-player install of BUG and installing VD normally is the way to go.

As for problems with other mods, you can tell the other mods to ignore the CustonAssts folder (where BUG is installed) so they don't clash. Do this by launching the other mod once first to create its INI file. Exit civ, modify the mod's INI file and set NoCustomAssets to 1. Unfortunately you won't get BlueMarble this way, though.
