I got BTS over the holiday season and only just got around to doing more than playing with corporations and new wonders. When I started up a serious game, I started exploring around to see what was happening, when I met Gilgamesh.
But it wasn't Gilgamesh, per se - all there was was a floating wig. Confused, I went to world builder and put some units by the enemy units to see whether this was Gilgamesh only, or all leaders.
It turned out to affect every last civilization's leader. They range from Isabella, who's just a floating pair of eyelids, to Victoria, who's the right shape but completely white (no eyes, mouth, etc, just a white blob). But oddly enough, the world is completely fine. Aside from the occasional beaver buried under the ground or invisible stone resource, the problem is solely leader appearances.
Civ 4 vanilla did no good to my PC either, it crashed to the desktop constantly, but that more or less stopped, and I put it behind me. Is my ancient machine simply incapable of running BTS?
