i have seen a lot of people switching to other browsers and i would like to now what makes those browsers better than IE?

what features do they have that IE doesn't have?

Explain?

Thank you in advance :)

Firefox has:
  • Its own popup blocker
  • Many extentions to costimise fetures
  • Costimisable skins
  • A search bar that does not take away any space (its 1.5 inches)
  • Homepage and search page that cannot be changed by the site you are visiting.
  • More to come

Google toolbar (Consider it a customizable plugin for IE.)

I'm not saying that Firefox is worse; I'm just rebutting for the sake of it :)

IE is behind the times in supporting the latest web standards. I had a site that displayed perfectly fine in Firefox, but I had to spend some time modifying the code so it would display correctly in ie.

And I don't trust SP2. :p

I don't think features are the most important consideration. As a less popular browser, Firefox is not as big a target as IE and is, ATM, more secure. I have been using it for more than 6 months and have found few compatability issues.

Also, for those of us who still use Win98, SP2 is not an option and M$ is holding us hostage by not updating IE for us. For me, Firefox provides the latest technology that is more secure.

While I agree with you that Firefox is an excellent option for those who aren't using XP or an up-to-date system, I'll have to disagree with your assessment that Microsoft is holding you "hostage." Microsoft has always had a policy of supporting their operating systems for a 5 year period, and they've lived up to that. In fact, for Windows 98, they actually extended their support - even though it would cost them more money than it was worth. They didn't want to leave their customers using 98 in the dark. Now I'm sorry, does that still make them greedy scumbags?

Google toolbar is spyware.

Also it takes up more space. (In firefox the search space comer right after the adress bar.)

Basicly, while IE is an OK browser, firefox is suprior in many ways and infearior in none.

It is true that some webpages work on one engiene, but not the other. This goes both ways.

Please, enlighten us all on how the Google toolbar is spyware.

Easily fixed. Remove all the buttons the toolbar creates by editing the options and then drag it next to the address bar and you have the exact same size

One of the more annoying IE flaws (at least for me), is IE's inability to render alpha transparency for PNGs. And on top of that, I couldn't ever go back to non tabbed surfing without adblocking.

My IE got a virus or something, and no longer works.

Then I got enlightened about Firefox, after suffering for a couple months with IE either crashing randomly, not opening, or, well, just being a pain.

Firefox I love because of TABS, TABS, and, ohh, did I mention that TABS? And that nifty little Google search thingie to the right of the Address Bar. Basically, Firefox is kinda like IE, same layout, just a lot better 'cause of the TABS, and it doesn't crash like IE (for me). SP2 did jack squat for IE, it still crashed and dies whenever I try to use it, and it usually makes XP crash, it takes both down. Firefox, its very, very stable. And I cannot live without TABS anymore!

It's so frusterating going on IE, and pressing crtl-t, and . . . nothing. (crtl-t gives a new Tab in Firefox)

I have been using Netscape 7.1 for about 2-3 months, because IE sucked for me too. Crashing every 2 seconds  - I've also found the google toolbar to have spyware, but I have a feeling it was related to the download site, not the plug-in. Can't prove it other then Adaware 6 picking up trojans.

I'm still planning on trying Mozilla, maybe Opera. I would recommend N7 for general purpose though. It at least looks cooler and is extremely stable compared to IE - and believe me, I press my luck.

I don't even have IE on my comp, deleted it after a few days. Useless stuff. Safari is a lot better, and has TABS. TABS are great. Can't live without them. And popup-blocking.

The only thing I haven't found out yet is how to block ads... but I've got used to them.

You can't completely delete it, as it's integrated into windows. I saw a discussion about it on some other forums I visit, and it is possible, but difficult.

i downloaded Firefox yesterday and i just absolutely love it:love:

though at first the defualt theme looked ugly then i just downloaded another theme called
Noia 2.0 and that rocks.

i have joined the Firefox community.

I have a question for fellow Mozilla users like me. How do you use Chatzilla?
Chatzilla blows. I tried to use it but it sucked, and I went back to good ol' mIRC. Much more comfortable and user-friendly.

How Opera rocks Firefox:

  1. Full search engine customizing: FF only has plugins, but you can't change the URL or the order of the plugins.
  2. F12: I can enable proxy servers, change browser id, and other great tools with a click of the button.
  3. Stylesheets: 12 stylesheets are included for accessibility reasons, and you can choose whatever stylesheet you want.
  4. Rewind/Fastforward buttons: These are heavenly. I can browse through picture galleries or go through stories with a spacebar or Alt-X.
  5. Wand: Even FF 1.0PR can't beat Opera's wand. I can hit Ctrl-Enter and instantly get a list of usernames to enter (in FF, you have to type out the name first). Opera has also had password protection since 7.0 (recently only implemented in FF1.0).
  6. Shift-F11: I can see how a webpage looks in cellphone mode.
  7. Keyboard/Mouse Customization: Full set already by default in Opera.
  8. Out of the box: No need to download extensions or add anything else.
  9. Panels: I can get bookmarks, history, notes and transfer hisotry by clicking F4 or going to the left of my screen.

How Firefox rocks Opera:

  1. Extensions: Some of them really rock (such as AdBlock and Linkification).
  2. Rendering: There aren't any prejuices against Firefox, so it's more likely to render a page rorrectly (you wouldn't believe all the stupid Opera sniffers, even Yahoo Mail!).
  3. Open-source: If you're a developer, it rocks.
  4. Free: Personally, a Opera's ad doesn't bug me, but it bugs some people.
