Might play my first multiplayer tonight. What do I need to know?

I was hoping to play a coop game of my best friend and me against several AI opponents? Is that a possibility? Can I save the game and resume it days later since I'm presuming we won't finish it in one night? Anything else I need to know? I've never tried this before.

Okay. I think I got it figured out. You can set teams, so there's no reason we couldn't do a 2 players vs. a computer team. I'm a veteran, but my friend is a relative noob. How many AI's could we take, you think? Three?

Okay, I got no help, but I'm playing my first Cloud game with my best friend, the two of us vs. two AI's and it's going relatively well. The annoying part is that the game has to be saved and reloaded after each turn. It kicks you back to the lobby after your turn and then brings you back in when you're up. So this is a situation where you'll want to be doing something else along with your game of Civ and playing it whenever your turn comes up. As a teacher, I grade papers and read and Steam lets me know when I'm up.

If anybody wants to get a 1v1 duel game with me going, I'm game. However, please don't join it unless you're committed to seeing it through. I won't quit on you whether I'm winning or losing. Please do me the same courtesy. To join the game, use the join code: gNdz8

Hello. It looks like you may the only current poster in this Forum section. I'm a long time Civ fan, but new to MP. I'd love to get acclimated with it, just like you have. Thank you.

Let me know what sort of game you're looking for and I'll make one for us. I've only played one 1v1 so far with no cpu's and it made it basically a rush-fest. If that's what you're looking for, we can try it, but I'd be up for adding in a couple AI's just to create a random element. One of us could caught between them and it could make the scenario unbalanced, but war isn't fair. Tell me what you want and I'll give you the join code.

Hi, I'm Mike. Thanks for responding. I have some time this weekend, if you wanted to kind of "schedule" a time to play. I really have no expectations. I rarely play with a Militaristic goal, as I get bored with the tedious nature of just trying to spam units and overtake the world. Obviously, on Deity level, you have to be prepared to fight, because someone will be attacking in no time. I like the fun of outlasting the AI's in a non-military type victory.

I usually do a standard map, continents, only 5 other Civs and the default 12 CS's on Deity level - for the challenge. I'd also play a lot on King level, just so I could have fun and be sure to dominate the AIs. I only have 3 victories on Deity level and about 100 loses.

I did read someone suggest a smaller map is better for online games - which cant take so long. I'd think having some AIs makes much sense.

Also, I'd want to know how long you wanted to play in a given session. And is there a chat in the multiplayer game? Anyway, I'm eager to give it a go. Let me know when you'd like to play. I'm usually up early, so I wouldn't be against some morning action. I'll wait for you reply.

See, you're going to have to open your eyes to how impractical Civ multiplayer is. If we pick the smallest map we can, the game will still take days. After EVERY turn played by either of us, the game has to upload to the cloud. When it's the other player's turn, that player's game will need to launch and he'll have to go through the loading sequence. It takes forever. So this will not be a match where you can sit there and wait for the other player to finish and then take your turn. You're going to have to be reading a book, watching TV, or doing something else or you'll soon be bored out of your mind with the wait. I can set this up, but you'll want to play whenever you can. If we trade Steam ID's, we can message each other, which I would like. Let me set something up now, and you can join and play as often or as little as you like.

Okay, I made a small, fractal map with the two of us and 4 AI's. It's possible we'll have continents, but if we do, the game will take a month. Password to join is Qjd5e. My Steam ID is Genghis_Sean.

Gents... I am in as well. Genghis_Sean… I sent a friend request on Steam. I am also looking for MP games. Played my first one last week with a buddy after playing the AI exclusively since 1998... what a different experience. Anyways, looking to play fairly, no quit, etc. I also prefer planning times ahead so we can all be on the same page. I am no expert... prob at king level. Anyways Civ 5 or 6. Cheers.

Will definitely add you. Currently involved in two games, so not looking to start a new one just now, but I'll have you on deck. Do you know what kind of game you're looking for?

4 player FFA with the 2 of us and 2 cpu's?
A 1v1 (which becomes a rush-fest).
You want me to try to get several of us into a FFA, maybe 3 players and 3 AI's?

Islands? Continents? Pangea?

Let me know what you're looking for.

Thanks for reaching out Sean.

I am open to options. I do prefer 2-4 human players (easier to synch up times) with the rest AI; standard speed; terra map, normal size (terra is great for second wave of expansions; age of discovery; competition for city states); 3:1 city state ratio per civ; and of course no quit / fair play. I am usually reserve a few hours on Sunday midday - evening for civ, so we can definitely start, save, and continue over a period of several days or weeks. I can also be free a few weeknights with a few days notice.

I just played my first MP with a buddy this month after 20 years playing the AI exclusively. What a difference... completely changed the dynamic, strategy, and tactics. MP adds so much depth to the game. Hope we are able to go against each other or gather a small group for some interesting play.

Anyone else reading this welcome to friend me on Steam, username Queso81. Cheers.
