This is atrocious! I am playing Second Conquest (Rise of Rome) and is at war with absolutely everyone, except Macedonians...who are at war with absolutely everyone as well, except me. I have no chance to win under such conditions!!!

Is there a patch to fix ridiculous AI behaviour? (of course AI agression is average and difficulty is Regent, why would i ask otherwise?) Or what does provoke them to invite others to war?

And how to improve AI agression aganist other AIs?
 
there is nothing wrong with it. The 3 barbarian groups in the game are specifically there for military alliances. They are basically mercenaries since all they do is expand slowly and produce lots of military units. You simply need to take advantage of your commerce production power (especially if you are playing as rome) and buy alliances. When I played RoR on regent I had every AI in an alliance with ME against Carthage (was playing as rome) for the entire game.

Just keep paying them lump sums and GPT for alliance. If they break the alliance and DoW on you, keep trying to trade with them and when they acknowledge your envoy, buy the alliance back. There is a reason you start with so much gold :D Nobody in the game is trustworthy and they will all ally with the highest bidder, so just keep your treasury stocked and you'll be OK. And Once you have them all beating on your enemy, your enemy will spend all his gold on units and won't be able to buy any alliances :D
 
Then, nothing wrong with Civs agreeing on a military alliance aganist me despite being "Polite"? The Global War of Europe on 5th conquest with Portugal attacking me when i was Spain? (I did not refuse any demands, there haven`t been any, they simply landed near a colony, attacked it...and lost, in case you are wondering) And then France siding with them? I played on another computer and nothing been that cruel, it only went up to trade embargo.

And I am a cheapskate, the only things i pay for is techs (occasionally), units and improvements. These demands and alliances anger me horribly and I can`t play when I`m angry.:(
 
it's the way the game works :) The AI are more than happy to DoW on a civ they have been trading with all game if it suits their goals. The AI plays the game one turn at a time, they have no long term plan. If someone offers them gold and they need it right now, they will back-stab their closest ally in a second. You just need to make the first move, especially on Rise of Rome where the world is at war from turn 1 till the end of the game.

Being a cheapskate is a bad quality in this game. You need to be willing to throw a lot of gold and techs at AI's to get them to do what you want, even if the trade is totally unfair to you. In the game I'm playing now I paid 3 techs and 20 some gold per turn for a single luxury for 20 turns because I needed it that badly.
 
Realizing that the AI is just as unreliable in this game as in Rome:Total war is very painful. I will restart, and I include the save there, just in case you want to look into it. Just do not care that I was too lazy to rename the save after I won the first conquest.

Also, a quick question:Can special units trigger Golden Age 2 times?

no, you only get 1 golden age.

I don't know how far into the game that save is, but it looks like you havent done much. No exploration, no expansion, no workers produced, no aquaducts, cities stuck at size 6.

I played half a turn. Made peace with everyone, built embassies, traded world maps, then bought military alliances for GPT, lump sum, spare luxuries, maps and techs. 960 gold still in the treasury, with +2 coming in per turn.

Well, I mostly carried on the war with Carthage, so I was very surprised to find I was losing the war. I was afaid to expand north because barbarian hordes would overrun my cities.

This time I did a better job and destroyed their capital upon the 30-40th turn. They however build navy this time instead of military and i lost 4 legionaries to that.

Unfortunately, military alliances that i signed aganist Carthage, started turning upon each other, going as far as Persia allying Carthage 2 turns after military alliance aganist Carthage has ended...

Another question:Where to see how many units need to be garrisoned in a city to prevent cultural flip?

culture flip has nothing to do with garrisoned units. It is simply based on culture and the number of foreign citizens. If you want to prevent culture flips, quickly starve the city down to population of 1 then build it back up with your native citizens. But in reality you cannot prevent culture flips by any other means than simply having more culture.

That is not true. A garison lowers the flip risk. Civ Assist II is a tool that can show how many units are necessary to completely eliminate the flip risk.

ah =| thanks for correcting me. I always thought it didn't affect it since I've had many units lost to a flip. Especially sucks when armies are lost to a flip.
 
Sometimes you just need one unit to prevent a flip, other times it can be as many as 60 or more, it depends on you total culture to their culture, the number of tiles within the cities fatx that are controlled by the other civ and the number of foreign citizens within the city.

On higher levels you are generally a long way behind in culture so it is better just to raize cities.
