Minecraft

How do you prevent it?

You press "Don't update". If you don't have that, you're Minecraft launcher is WAY outdated like mine was for a few months.

One thing I want to see is slippery terrain when it rains, or when water(flow) has been over it (and for a time afterwards). Slippery tiles would show a shade darker as thought they're wet. Water should hurt, too, if you jump from say say, 30-50 feet.

Water NOT hurting is a GOOD thing since its used for lots of quick drops and stuff. Also I don;t know about you, but wet grass isn't THAT slipper. Same with rough stone :p

Although unless lightning causing fires can be turned off easily weather will remain off on the server I play on anyway (a couple of mansions burned down).

Nice, though creative servers have it easy. They don't have to dig up 5000+ blocks of sand to make a Biodome.

I had hoped to make a tower on my original house near it for a good view but someone built a castle in the way.

From the twitters:

1.7 Thursday (my bad)

1.7 will include pistons, shears, redstone->repeater fix and fences on fences. It will not include the new lighting

Oh yeah, I forgot. 1.7 includes new cobblestone and clay brick textures

For your information, we have confirmed that the clay bug is fixed in 1.7. #embarrasmentevaded

From Notch's blog on 1.8
The update is pretty big, and will change a lot of how Minecraft is played, focusing on making exploration and combat much more rewarding, and bringing in a bigger sense of adventure to the game.

Already implemented are new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas. To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and npc villages.
