Let's just imagine for a second that you have a computer with the min specs:

Windows 2000
Pentium 4 1.2 GHz
256 MB RAM
GeForce2 with T&L

Does anyone think there's a chance in hell that this game would run? I really think that many refunds/apologies are in order from both Take2 and Firaxis for mistating the requirments and rushing out the game.

Um, you might be able to run it, barely. I'm barely running it with a 512 ram, 1.4 ghz, and 32 mb with tnl. If you can run it I'm guessing you'll have to deal with the black terrain problem but if your willing to use the workaround for that then you might be okay.

I am technically under the quoted requirements, with 1.1GHz P3, 512 MB RAM, and an older NVidia graphics card on Windows XP.

The wonder movies tended to crash my system, but once I turned them off I have not had too many problems. It is a little slow, especially later in the game. I have played only on small maps so far, and I do not think that I will ever be able to play maps larger than Standard.

Still, I can play and that is all that counts.

At this point, it's anyone's guess how it'd run on that system.
I'm running Athlon XP 1600, 256 sdram, GF FX 5200 128. It's not good.
4 fps.
Half-life 2 got me 40+ fps so I guess that's saying something. Hell, even the mess that was Boiling Point was running better than this.
I'd say, wait till they release a couple of patches, whenever that is.

EDIT: well that post down there's fecked.

Edit: forgot to mention, I tried the game with a GF 2 MX card and got the exact same performance. And no black terrain either.

I'm going to have to upgrade practically everything apart from harddisk and monitor to run this game. My current system predates Civ3 so it's going to be a major overhaul.

Sadly, I'm on an extremely tight budget so I can't just go for a new state of the art machine. I was thinking with graphics... Apart from Civ4 and Rome Total War I don't plan on running any intensive games in that area. Would it be worth it to get a motherboard with just AGP slot rather than a PCI-e slot? If I get an older one I can cut down the price and the Leadtek WinFast A6200 TDH (GeForce 6200) that I'm looking at is a AGP card.

Also, any recommendations to motherboard and CPU? I don't need anything excessive, so am thinking of something like a Celeron D330 or maybe ADM 2600+. That way I should be able to upgrade everything for about 300-350 US$. Just a pity I don't live in the states where it would be cheaper

I might eventually get Age of Empires 3 as well, but as long as Civ4 and R:TW will run, then that's the most important. Any good suggestions as to how to get a system capable of that cheaply? I could build it myself, but hasn't done something like that in a decade, so...

So, with my needs is it worth it to just get a AGP slot?
What board/CPU would you recommend?

At least getting 1GB is much more straightforward
