Egypt has landed forces in Audiac and is likely planning to begin colonising the region. This is a citizen opinion thread asking should we mobilize troops against Egypt?

Pros: Troops will be in the region for a potential attack on egypt, and we will be able to thwart their expansionism.

Cons: Its a war or its a futile waste of moves if there is no war.

Yea we will have to take start the war. But maybe wait? Let them build a city, it won't be very hard to capture it. Don't rush with moving the troops to north, still have a good defence on borders with Babylon. I aslo suggest that we must have 2 galleys there so they won't be abble to support their defence.

No I don't think assigning troops to the outskirts of our lands is a wise thing when we still face barbarians and aren't sure who will declare war on us first; Egypt or Babylon.

If we just have some Horsies in our land, which can reach the Egyptians in 2 or 3 turns we're ok. That Mobile Strike Team can take care of them if needed. Some (about 2) warriors or a spear can provide defense. We can't stop them settling or scouting. And what are we loosing really, some far out desert. If I have to choose between safety and expansion OR loosing a desert they can have the desert.

If you look at my post in this thread you see that IMHO there is much more at stake:
  1. weakening Greece and Egypt
  2. neutralizing the Babylonian threat
  3. claiming a high-growth site with tradeable wines
    [/list=1]
The war will happen sooner or later. I just advocate "sooner" because of what we gain by havibg it now.

Well, Egypt does have the distinction of being the only civ eliminated in all three past demogames, so I guess it's tradition. ;)

Anyway, I say go for it, but be sure before the attack that we have enough units to safely defeat the settler/spear combos and any galley-bound attack units that they might land.

Tradition, hey. Ever seen Fiddler on the Roof bootstoots?

Aren't we comtemplating a switch to republic? If so why are we also contemplating war? Why is the Minster of Defense trying to get a war started?

Let there be peace. :)

I agree with donsig. We're in no position domestically to lauch any sort of war, no matter who the oppenent is. Maybe, once we're done settling and have built up a good infrastructure, we can think about war. Maybe.

I haven't loaded the save in several days so forgive me if this comment is way off base. Is Egypt the yellow civ to the NW, across the water? If not, ignore what follows as the ramblings of a burned-out software developer...

In my SP games, I typically consider settlers from off-continent civilizations to be equivalent to 2 slave workers, and attack on sight, before the city can be built. This is far and away preferable to razing a size 1 city. If the settler is in range, the only thing which slows me down is when they have a defender which is much stronger than the available offensive units.

Domestic is a problem, but I have little wish to invade their continent except to take mabye one city there. If there is war, I plan to have this as to thwart their expansion rather than total conquest.

The phantom of the SaaMpra.....

Tradition! Tradition!! (Dodoodeloododeloo!) Tradition!!

Exit the phantom, to go back to being disgusted with what he sees...

I think that we should mobilize against Egypt, while Babylon eyes us from the south, they arent settling our lands. Also, unless we invade Babylon, we're going to need land. Perhaps taking 1 or 2 mainland Egyptian citys would serve our purpose, to establish a presence on their land. But we will need anvy.

I think we should attack Egypt at some point, just to reclaim the north. I made a post in the other "attack egypt" thread here. In about 20-25 turns-time, we could have a potential war-machine on our hands -- if we play our cards right...)
