I just played a test 2x2 game, and it was awesome! the 2 sides of the map are identical, so however good/bad your start is, the other team has the same start.
The map is random/pangea, my game was kind of oval surrounded by ocean. The skirmish maps I have been playing on for teamer have no water, it was nice to be able to use Civ elements like optics and boats.
