Miscellaneous Graphics

While I'm on this thread, here are some town resources that I have been working on for Steph.

Hey this is perfect! I have a "Hamlet" resource I'm tinkering with and these would be perfect, thanks Pounder. The one with the chapel looks great!

Nope you're right about the magenta pixels (and about the style of the graphics).. I can see them too

No need for excuses ! Thank you for the fix ,Pounder. :)
btw: are these magenta pixels caused by the Shadows in the pcx ?

No it happened when I scaled the picture to fit in the resource window.

Usually I scale it with 256 colours so no new colours are introduced, I must have scaled it with 24bit colours before I copied it into the resource file and that's when the new colours were introduced (pinkish, but not exactly the tranparent colour).

That`s a very intering point for me.:scan:
You scale them in 256 mode ??? Dang ,I`m used to scale my graphics in RGB mode. Somewhere I have read that RGB-rescaling brings better results. But now it sounds like it is the wrong way I`m working with.
In my own work I have a lot of trouble with these magenta pixels surrounding graphics. Looks like I now know why.:(
(PLEASE CONFIRM THAT I`M A GRAPHICAL IDIOT:blush:)

Usually I do all my work in RGB, then index to 256 colours to get my palette.

If the original work was 128x128 pixels and I wanted to convert it to 49X49 for a resource. I already have the colour palette, so I would just scale it in indexed mode.

If you scale it from 128 to 49 in RGB mode you will get a halo if unwanted pixels that are not in the previously indexed palette (sort of a gradient effect). You could try and re-index the newly scaled picture before you copy it into the resource file, but I find the the palettes will not be the same a you may still end up with unwanted pixels.

This is just my experience/preference, others may have methods that work for them.

They are looking nice :)

Good Building Resources Pounder :goodjob:

Regarding the Resizing issue with Magenta shades surrounding the Image...
The easiest way is to resize with the Image colors indexed as you do it.
... as you know, there are many ways to do things so what ever works best to get the results desired is what one tends to do.

It can be better to resize with the Image in 16 Million Colors because when changing the size, some colors can be better with subtle changes at the smaller size. This is especially true for Sharpness, Brightness and Contrast. Sometimes also Color Saturation.

Most Graphics Programs are affected by the Backgrounds that surround an Image when reducing the size and an Anti-Aliasing effect with additional pixels of color shades that are a blend of the Image and the Background are placed around the Image.

It can be helpful to change the Background color to a Greyscale shade so the surrounding additional colors would blend the image with more of a shadow effect than Magenta shades. You can also remove or change any of the surrounding colors by using a Softening Tool to blend them more or remove them by painting them out.

Another Very Good Way that provides Good Results when making a smaller Image from a Larger one is to Reduce the size of the larger Image on Screen to the size that is wanted when it is actually reduced by using the ZOOM.
An Image that is 128 x 128 can be Zoomed to 25% and it will be the same size as a 32 x 32 size image. You can simply take a quick Screen Shot of the Image (ALT+Print Screen) and then Paste that new image (CTRL+V). You can then adjust the Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast, etc... as you like. Then make the New Palette.
I have far better Results in general using this technique than any others but I do test other ways to see what looks best because some images will look better just resized while the colors are indexed and or adjusting the smaller image manually in ways that improve it. Depends on the image.

Looks nice, even if you think it's cheesy. If I ever had the time for a Halloween mod it'd be great to use this. Thanks for sharing it.:goodjob:
