I think I more objected to the word unlawful there. I realize it was retaliation. And I'd argue that the United States shouldn't have burned York. But your post almost made it sound like a justified burning.

Meh, I wasn't passing any moral judgements. Merely stating that the burning of York was against the laws of war, which it was.
