This is a very weird bug that actually has no effect on teh game, but it's very annoying.

So anyway, I played 20 turns for Hawk Cheiftain's new SG. I went to upload the save file- but it wasn't there. Strangely, when I load the game in Civ3 itself (both PTW and C3C are affected by this- as for vanilla, I don't know, since it's hopelessly screwed up), it works fine. But there's no save file in Program Files->Infogrames Interactive->Civilization III->Civ3 PTW->Saves where there should be! It applies to autosaves, too.

If you couldn't make sense of that, here's what I mean. Here's the PTW Main Screen, I've just clicked "Load Game":

Now, when I go into my computer and go into the "C" drive, then open the folders "Program Files", then "Infogrames Interactive", then "Civilization III", then "Civ3 PTW", then "Saves", there should be two .SAV files there, right? There are no such files, just a blank folder.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Own - Are you running Windows Vista as your OS? Several folks have recently posted that they cannot see .SAV files in Vista and it needs to be enabled. Check this post out .... http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=251715

If it's not Vista, and you have XP or Win2000 or whatever, make sure you enable Windows Explorer to see all hidden files and file extensions.

Yes, it's vista, since my computer with XP won't run any CD game other than C3C, which for some reason, doesn't require the disk to be in. I have no idea why.

So anyway, SG-17's post wasn't all that clear- Where is organize and properties?

Uh, er, well, the Organize button is in your second screenshot, straight down from Files and Edit.

Don't know where Properties might be. In Win98 and XP, right clicking gets to properties. I'm not familiar with Vista.

I have this problem in Vista also. 'Properties' is part of the menu options when you click on the 'Organize' button. I have checked all the folders for 'Hidden' files to no avail. When I do an Advanced search for .sav files that are hidden, then I can see where they all are, but they just don't show on the ordinary window. As the original thread starter notes, WTH?

Vista is so annoying.

Thanks, I'll try that solution as soon as my brother lets me have the freaking Computer I'm talking about.

Okay, I go into Organize and Properties, a window comes up. There's a checkbox which says "Hidden". What now? It's unchecked, and If I check it, the autosaves folder vanishes and nothing appears.

F YOU, VISTA!!!!!

Don't despair; Google search can help (vista save files civ) and I found this link:

Forum Notebook Review that discusses something called "User Account Control". This might help.

Okay, I decided to use my computer's search to try and find the saves.

It turned them up, in a series of folders:

C:/Users/My Dad's Name/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Civ3 PTW/Saves.

So, I decide to follow that, going out into the C Drive, then following the first two folders.

Then, I find that "AppData" Isn't there!

Vista, work for 2 seconds, will ya?

Seems like I read in one of these threads that you have to be logged on as the Administrator. Betcha the admin on your machine is "My Dad's Name". Maybe if you ask, "Pretty please with sugar on top.......", especially if you explain that eventually the HD will get clogged up with thousands (millions???) of unnecessary files unless they can be deleted. :mischief:

 The AppData Folder was hidden. D'oh! All I had to do was use Organize->Folder and search Items, where I set it to enable hidden items to be shown, and then I got straight to The Save file! I proceded to Un-hide the AppData folder and it's sub-folders (even the ones not relating to Civ3).

Although, strangely, it still doesn't appear in Program Files->Infogrames->CivIII->PTW->Saves. I don't know why.
