Any advice for the following problem:
Before triremes, when I'm sending settlers to found my initial cities, I can only see water out one space from shore. Then later, when I start exploring the nearby seas, I often find that I missed a whale two spaces from shore, or misplace a city so it has one whale instead of, say, three (two hidden at first). I know there's a pattern for specials, but if you start with a lot of grassland you can't see much of that pattern. Someone mentioned that there's a formula so that if you see even one special, you can tell where they all are. Is this true? If so, what is it? Also, don't patterns vary game to game (there's a "seed" number in the map generator or something)? How have others here tackled this?
