:nope: I believe it's (difficulty modifier + barb modifier) * qscore (and some other modifiers)

Difficulty modifier from 0.1 on settler to 0.9 to deity.
Meaning that raging barbs on settler will double your score, and on deity they'll only give 11% extra score.
 
What level are you aiming to get a high score at?

If its a low level (noble or below), play a philosophical leader and farm everything, grow your cities as much as you can, employ plenty of specialists, put cities anywhere they will fit, lightbulb techs and build every wonder in the game, take over the world and you should get a decent score. You also have to try and win early (domination before 1400AD is a good aim).

Essentially of the four components of score, land is going to be the same regardless if you're aiming at domination but you can aim to maximize tech score, wonders score and population score.

If I understand it correctly, population and speed are your keys for getting a high score.

What matters is how:
high pop you have vs max pop (the x/y after pop score)
how much land you have vs domination limit
how many techs you have researched
and to a small degree how many wonders you have buildt.

Population is by far the most important factor (matters more than the others added together)

This is modified by how early you win (if your score factors grows faster than an extra turn is vs total number of turns it is generally better to hold off the win a few turns to get a higher score)

You can find the exact formulas in the python code that comes with game.


So basically.. to get highest possible score.. expand to 1 tile below domination limit, then grow cities as much as possible (while researching techs, but dont sacrifice growth for techs), then when pop score is maxed, pass domination limit ( or win by conquest).

The faster you can do this the higher score you will get (maxing techs or wonders takes too long vs the number of turns it takes)
