MMORPGs for the PC

I'm contemplating getting broadband and am interested in trying out such online game (Everquest etc). So, any opinions on which is the best, for an MMORPG newbie like myself, to try out?

I know of the regulars like Everquest and Asheron's Call 2 etc, but are there any other interesting ones out there?

Is FFXI already out, in the US, for the PC? Is it any good?

I'm envious! That'll be great if we can play a game together but afraid the time-zone difference is too great...

In my case, still contemplating getting broadband though.

i'm out for summer vacation and i'm always up late at night, its 1am right now so i think we could play around the time zones

At the time I posted the above, it's lunch hour here, and I'm at work...

If we're to play, you'll either need to wake up very early in the morning, or stay up till the next day. Can only play after work. Obviously I'll also need my beauty sleep, to prepare for work the next day...

Anyways, like I said, still contemplating the issue.
