Mobile Warfare

Well since i always have huge production in nearly all of my cities i can produce a bomber in 2turns. It all depends on how you use your weapons.I happen to win by Overpowering, and i win by using Cruise Missles Bombers Fighters Marines and Armor.
Bomb the front first, with bombers and c.missles, send in the armor and fighters and then the marines to secure.
Infantry is sent in the Secure the Area, Armor is sent in to Take the Area, but not to hold it.

Is it really worth it all?"

I dont use bommers to bomb the citys i bomb the citys with fighters because they can attack 3 or 4 times with the same unit and they can hit bommers coming after you i may lose more but i can inflict a lot more dammage on a city with a fighter than a bommer.

Winning by brute force is the exact opposite of what strategy is about.

You don't perform surgery with a sledgehammer.

True there Blitz.......
A succesful invasion is a work of art that should be carefully planned. Only in lower level games (or games against in-experienced players) can you usually get away with using thoughtless brute force. The kill everything that moves tactic is really only good in a duel setting...not a real game.

Does anyone know anything about the AirLand doctrines used by NATO in the Gulf campaign?

isn't that the No Fly zones that NATO set up in Northern and Southern Iraq?<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/smilies/cwm6.gif" border=0>

I don't think so. I was hoping you'd know something about it Sun, because you like 'planes. All I know is AirLand is some sort of mega-hot strategy developed by the West, which uses close air and land coordination and attacks to devastate an enemy.

It worked well in the Gulf, and relies on high technology fighter-bombers and ground-attack aircraft. Cruise missiles, stealth bombers, smart bombs etc are part of it.

I think the general idea is to nip in with some sexy jets and knacker your opponents bridges and stuff, then roll over them with Abrams and challengers.

The reason I brought it up is because you advocate using bombers to support armour. Maybe if we look it up on the internet or something we can take the air-force forward in Civ. It'd be good if we could find some new theories and apply them to the game, and if I could find a non-naval role for bombers it would develop a new edge for mobile assaults...

Long live the civfanatics.com tribe...

That's awesome blitz i'll start looking tomorrow. Maybe it'll help the Civfanatics.com Tribe win the #1 spot
Yeah at first i thought it had something to do with the 1,000's of cruisemissles we launched in the Gulf War.
Well my only comment on that strategy, is that it work TOO WELL Iraq had to 4ht largest army in the world! And it only took the coalition 100hours of ground war to win!
Kinda makes you feel all warm inside eh?

I've had a brief look, and I managed to find some stuff about fire-support coordination.

It's heavy going, very detailed, precise stuff. I haven't been able to get stuck into it yet, but I will do. I can feel a whole new era dawning... just the concept of fire-support and co-ordinated assaults using planes, artillery, cruises, naval support - sounds devastating on the tactical level!! I reckon we can find a meeting ground for your ideas and mine, and launch heavily supported, fast-moving attacks against the enemy's of the tribe...

hehehe!

The best place for Archives is the Website for the United States Library of Congress. It has tons of Historical information and battle tatics er... i'm not sure abuot the URL to it but do a search for it.

Cool.

Have you heard anything about the Soviet Movement warfare theory?

Apparently, they only give supplies (you know, unimportant things like food) to the column that is advancing the fastest.

That's one way of motivating people.

Yep And we should implement the Scorched-Earth Policy Pillage lands if we are being attacked and pushed back by the enemy
