Hi All !

I've just joined CivFanatics today. Please bear with me if I am asking for something too obvious or too obscure.

I am an avid player of Civilization 6 and have the Gathering Storm expansion installed.

I have been downloading mod files to use them with the initial installation of the game. I am having problems about where exactly to copy them to. This may seem like such an obvious enquiry because I can find the solution a lot on the web. So I will be very specific with my situation.

I have created separate folders for them and placed them into my mods folder which is :

C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Mods

These are the straight-forward cases and they are easily verified under 'Additional Contents'

However they are certain 'Mod' files which have contents that doesn't look like they should be placed there ( the Mods folder ).

Some of these mod files seems to have folders and files that looked like they should be placed into the location of the games original folder and subfolder tree structure which is in a different path altogether.

Are some of these suppose to be copied to the 'DLC' folder in the installed directory path or the 'Mods' folder or both ?

Please help me to identify precisely where these different kind of mod files should be copied to. I would appreciate any kind assistance to resolve this or any help in directing it to those who can.

Thanks in anticipation.

On my computer, mods downloaded from Steam are placed in the steam folder, i.e. for me the location is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\289070

Welcome!

I am having problems about where exactly to copy them to.
Are you actually having problems running these Mods? Don't they work if you place them in 'C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Mods', if so do they work in the alternative location @kaspergm mentioned?

Hi Noble Zarkon.

Thx for the swift response.

Are you actually having problems running these Mods?
Yes and no.

Some are quite obvious in their placement into the Mods folder while some are quite confusing.

Some examples :

Modfile "Tsunami Waves Lite"

Contents :
Folder "ArtDefs"
Files "Tsunami Waves Lite.dep"
"Tsunami Waves Lite.modinfo"

Copied to 'Mods' folder and working well with no corruption.

Modfile "AI+ 13.1"
Contents ( all files ):

AI+.modinfo
addleaders.sql
behaviortrees.xml
core.xml
diplomacy.xml
individualization.xml
military.xml
military_zerg.xml
minor.xml

Copied to Mods folder, appears under 'Additional Content' but does not take affect during gameplay.

Modfile "EasyToDistinguishWaterAndAppeal"
Contents :
EasyToDistinguishWaterAndAppeal.modinfo
EasyToDistinguishWaterAndAppeal.sql

Copied to Mods folder, appears under 'Additional Content' but does not take affect during gameplay.

Modfile "Moar Units"
Contents :

Folders:
ArtDefs
Folder Data
Folder Platforms
Folder Text

Files :
MOAR_Units.dep
MOAR_Units.modinfo

Copied to Mods folder, appears under 'Additional Content', but units graphics are corrupted.

Some contain folders and subfolders that looked like they belong somewhere within the game installed directory structure. Are these to be placed into the Mods folder too ? ( I tried but it didn't work very well )

I hope you can visualise my problems from these examples.

If you do need more info, please dont wait to ask. I'll reply soonest if our time zones allow it :-)

Appreciate your responses.

Hello, you don't have to place mod files in the location of the game files. If the folder contains subfolders structured like those in the main game folder, then that is merely a way of organizing the mod. You are not supposed to place any component in different places, it all goes in the civ6 mod folder.

Anyway if you don't know you can install stuff more easily by using the steam workshop.

There is no mod like that, every mod, whatever their structure, goes in the same location ("..\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Mods" for manual/controlled installation)

The only common file for all mods is the .modinfo file.

Hi criZp & Gedemon !

Thanks a bunch guys !

You have cleared up a lot of confusion for me with your concise replies and confirmed my suspicions about mod files navigation and placement within this game's directory structure.
I had spent almost a week, joining forums and reading stuff more than a scholar doing a thesis ! .... haha.

This means a lot to me.

Know that you have made one person happy on this planet during these troubled times.

Sometimes joy comes from simple things from simple guys like you all ( apart from winning a game on Deity ... maybe :-) )

Happy gaming and modding ... keep it up ... love your productive work ...

Stay healthy.

Cheers
