Mod Idea: National Flags

I think the unit flags of a civ should be like they are until nationalism is invented. they should change to national flags i.e. tricolore for french, stars and stripes for americans, blackredgold for germans etc. when the civ invents nationalism. would that be possible/hard to mod in? anyone had this idea before?

Almost every mod for Civ4 has a change to the flags... including my own Wolfshanze Mod which extensively modified most of the flags in-game (and added Austria & Poland to boot).

Maybe I need to clarify myself.. I want the standard flags with the logos (iron cross, star, greek helmet, etc.) until the civ invents nationalism.. only then they are changed into modern variants..

Oh... well... as far as I know, the game isn't set-up for that. Would probably require some major hacking if it can be done at all. It's not a simple XML tweak as far as I know.

it would require at minimum some python. Its do-able, though I couldn't tell you exactly how... sorry

Yeah... probably a Python thing, and I would think it might be doable with the "Events" Python (like building a wonder forces a movie... maybe reaching a tech forces a flag change)... dunno how, but a python wizard might. I'm 99.9% sure it's not doable in XML alone.

I think it would really add to the flavour of the game in the modern era. The modern flag mods we have so far destroy the mood of the ancient/medivial times for me..
