First of all I hope this thread is in the right place, wasn't quite sure where to put it.
Now my idea (I have a lot of them).
New Building called 'training grounds' or something like that. It gives units unique promotions when they spend time in it.
You build it in a city, put a unit into the city click on which promotion to train and it takes a certain amount of gold off you and the unit disappears for a certain amount of turns. Then when it has finished training the unit gets returned to you with the new promotion. I think this would make the game heaps more fun because it adds another layer to the strategy. 'Do I put my unit into training for the next 20 turns to have him really powerful but risk not having him available if I am attacked?'
Some ideas for promotions might be:
+10% damage = 50g and 5 turns (Stacks 5 times but each additional time costs and additional 50g and 5 turns)
+10% defensive power = 30g and 3 turns (Same as above but the damage only applies when defending)
medic = 200g and 20 turns (heals a unit but also uses up his attack for the turn. Works like an archer but you target your own units and heal them for 20-30dmg.)
Pillager = 10 turns and 500g (an expensive promotion but you now gain gold for every attack with this unit + bonus gold for killing a unit or capturing a city)
Entertainer = 20 turns and 200g (The unit now passively gains culture for the civ when inside your borders or tourism when inside another players borders.)
Builder = 10 turns and 100g (Unit can now build forts in friendly or unclaimed territory which add defensive strength to the tile and don't replace the improvement already there)
I could come up with heaps more, ultimately if someone wanted to make this mod I would want a list of like 100 unique promotions to give units and have them available upon discovering certain technologies and stuff. Unfortunately I haven't the foggiest how to make a mod like this but if you like my idea and want to see it in the game just reply to the thread and I'll add some more stuff. I'm not possessive about anything, don't care if you change names, add in your own things or whatever. I just want the game to be more fun
