The second episode of ModCast is here, an official podcast of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS). "Accent Support Group" (47m34s) features the four core panelists Wouter "Locutus" Snijders, Tony "GarretSidzaka" Kiehl, Kenneth "Impaler[WrG]" Ferland and Oscar "Elhoim" Velzi.

ModCast is a bi-weekly ~45-minute audio production of Apolyton Civilization Site and is an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on Civilization modding; its sibling show PolyCast focuses on Civ strategy. To date, ACS is the only community on the web to produce its own Civilization podcasts.

Summary of Topics:

- 01m13s | News
We call on modders to be guest co-hosts on the show.
- 04m43s | Artist Sketchpad
We discuss the Pierre Trudeau leaderhead (or is it Christopher Walken?) by bernie14, Grave's Saddam Hussein leaderhead (based on work of Iloveplayciv) and the Villista unit by C. Roland.
- 18m57s | Code Corner
A segment on Zebra 9's zRoutes mod, which turns into a Python vs C++ debate. Also, we talk about the Civ Changer SDK component by Dale.
- 30m12s | Spotlight
We discuss the Defense mod that came with Beyond the Sword (related link: Desktop Tower Defense).
- 40m10s | Mailbag
Going through the feedback we got for Episode #1 here, here and here.

Haha, I loved it! Just ended kind of abruptly.. :p

Good work!

Did you listen all the way to the end of the file? Because just before the ending there's a musical interlude of ~2 minutes and then there's a proper outro (waaayyy too long, I agree, DanQ and I already gave Tony grief for that, shouldn't happen again in future episodes ;)) I imagine some people might interpret that interlude as the end of the show (I know I did when I first listened to it).

Don't think so, the last I heard was someone mentioning something about the Civ Changer. The little box beside the thing that opens up to the right when you clicked play closed down to. I even went back and checked again.. But it might have just been me. :p

Then you definitely didn't get the full show, as you can see from the shownotes above, the CivChanger is not nearly the last topic.

I assume you're referring to the Flash player on our site? I tested it and it works fine for me, I have no idea why you're having trouble, I'll see if I can find anything about known issues with it. What browser, OS and version of Flash are you using?

In the meantime I guess you could just download the full MP3 and listen to the remainder of the show with Windows Media Player or some other local player.

Yah, ok will do. Must have been me. :)

I liked it... especially how it was broken up into segements covering each of the main parts of modding: graphics, code, and full mods. Good job!

Im glad you like it my brotha! and always be sure to tune in, snafu, coz your work usually makes it in! you should also consider coming ONTO the show sometime as a GUEST host!!!!

I could do that if you ran out of people - don't know if I'd have all that much to contribute though. After all I'm just a lowly graphics man, not that difficult compared to the genious coders out there.

You know, you guys are pretty bad for my afternoon - I started listening, then though, 'I'll make something while I listen.' Couple hours later I'm still fooling around with Civ4.

You know, I think a similar thing. I look at some of the graphics and think "I'm just a lowly coder, not that difficult compared to the genius artists out there". :)

 Very funny. :p I am 100 percent sure coding is harder, I looked into learning it, and I could not understand one bit. So even though I am not per se an expert at the graphics business, I can still say coding is harder. ;)

It's all relative as far as I'm concerned. I have a highly procedural mind, so the coding mindset comes naturally to me.

But ask me to draw a unit, and I wouldn't know where the hell to start. Sure I made some pretty good buildings for Simcity 4 (Melbourne Urban Living Collection, MCG, Bunnings, etc) but making units, l'heads and even just screens is beyond me. :)

I listened to this episode this morning and, apart from the horrendous comments about non-American's inability to speak English, it was pretty good. I was going to flame (ok, maybe small candle would be a more accurate picture) here about how America was this close to ending up speaking German (warning - don't click here if you don't want to ruin a good story) ... but then people wouldn't get that I was joking. Truth be told, American's don't know how to speak English anyway ... just ask them what these very common words / expressions mean ...

  • jumper
  • fortnight
  • rubbish bin
  • chook
  • on your bike, sunshine

Or ask them to spell colour (for example).

Or even Civilisation without a Z. ;)

True - I've lived here too long. I've even become immune to their dates ... 12/31/2007! :crazyeye:

Americans',
not American's. It's plural possessive.

:mischief:

And yes, it was a good episode.
